To frame my review in context - our stay was 20 euros a night. (Yes, 20 euros) So bear that in mind when you scroll down to find reviews bemoaning the lack of multiple bread varieties or somesuch. Who stays at a bed and breakfast then complains about no evening meal? Seriously! I stayed with a large group of walkers... More

Stayed there recently, no evening meals, no drying room for a very wet walker. Breakfast was poor, no variety of bread, just plain sliced pan, only instant coffee, most hikers are health concious, so I would have expected a little imagination beyond a health hazard full irish.Earliest we could get breakfast was 8.45am, far too late for someone who wants to... Having just hiked several miles along the Kerry Way and through the Reeks over Carrauntoohil, I expected this place to be the welcoming outdoor hub of memory - I stayed here in 98 when it was wonderful. But it's degenerated into a sad, gloomy, shabby place where the staff are either unwelcoming or have no knowledge of the activities of... More

Maybe a long time ago the Climbers Inn was the place to stay. As others mention, it was musty, not so friendly, almost deserted and the food was soup and sandwiches. Rooms were clean. Anyone walking the Kerry Way will not be impressed at having to walk another mile (uphill) to the Glencar Hotel for dinner. Save yourself the trouble... More

Don't go to the Climbers Inn unless you want to be ripped off! On their website I one can read (quote): 'where walkers & climbers from around the world meet to enjoy traditional Irish hospitality'. I just have to laugh reading this. Maybe me and my girlfriend enjoyed the traditional hospitality during the great famine or something, but from the... More

We stayed as a base camp for climbing Carantoohill. Its a grand spot. The bar serves qaulity pints and you can have a bit of craic with the locals. They have a pool table too. The Woman who runs it will be serving you pints until closing and then up the following morning cooking you a tasty breakfast and sandwiches... More

Really enjoyed my stay at the Climber's Inn, Glencar, the views, the people, overall great holiday. I must say have been all over the world and the scenery was second to none. I must definetly go back during the summer season to explore more. Stayed during quiet season but the locals made me more than welcome. The Hotel - Inn... More

If you want to step back into the 1980's this is the place for you. Renovated then, now gone shabby, this is a sad reflection of former glory. Winning awards 10 years ago this is as basic as it gets in Ireland. Home cooked food is either soup or stew. There is no menu.Bar Toilets smelt like a giraffe house... More

So disappointing - we walked 18 miles through the mountains on a hot day and passed three signs telling us about great home-cooked food served all day. We were offered soup and sandwiches which is really not what you want after a long days walking. It was not possible to negotiate anything else, even a plate full of chips with... More

I cannot account for the glowing review in Fodors. The Inn did not at all resemble this description. They could not provide hiking information. The food consisted of warmed over precooked meats and canned vegetables and the pub smelled strongly of mold. We do not recommend this hotel. There are much better places for the same price or less!
