Harbour House Budget Accommodation Guest House is a tourist budget accommodation in Sligo town, with en-suite single rooms, double rooms, twin rooms, family rooms and dormitory rooms. It is situated only 12 minutes walk from the centre of Sligo town and the main train and bus station for the North West of Ireland.
Firstly, the gentleman who owns this place is extremely friendly and it was nice to hear some of the history behind the building itself and we were delighted as this property allows pets as we don’t like leaving our 12-year old Yorkshire Terrier if we go away but it needs quite a bit of work done. There is a lot of potential with this B&B if there was money willing to be put into renovations. We had quite a bit of mould on the ceiling in our room (as seen in the photos) and the window was in need of repair. We didn’t realise the window could not shut properly until the high winds started and we were getting hit by smalls pockets of cold air. Wi-Fi was also non-existent in our room. We had mentioned it to Vincent in the common area as that seemed to be the only place where you can get steady Wi-Fi and he had seemed surprised by it not working for us. After checking other reviews, many others seemed to have issues with the Wi-Fi so it is not a one off. An issue that is at no fault of the accommodation, but they need to step in and do something is the home next door leaves their dog out all day in all weather conditions and it barks non-stop. It wasn’t until 12 a.m. that the poor dogs owners either came home or came outside when my partner (who at this point was so fed up) banged on our window to tell them to bring their dog inside. We got a not so friendly response but they brought the dog in. Poor thing was left in the pouring rain during the wintertime with no shelter. So needless to say we got no sleep, between the barking dog, and wind through the broken window. I’m sure other people have had the same experience, and complaints can be made to the appropriate authority by the business as it affects their custom. I would recommend downloading movies so you have entertainment if you can’t get Wi-Fi, bring your own pillow as the ones here aren’t great, and make sure to bring your own shampoo and body wash as none is supplied. Again, this place has so much potential! If they look at the majority of comments and see what the consistent issues are and act on them, place could be great, especially with folks being able to bring their pets.…

Do not stay here. They clearly advertise as budget accommodation but they didn't cover the basics as per their own listing. My door didn't close without the full weight of my body. The window was broken, the kitchen was closed and when I checked out the 'free breakfast' it was like a kids packed lunch for school, including juice boxes. The place had a dusty odour, no sound proofing and while I understand out of their control the noisy neighbours and dog just made the experience that much worse. The one staff member I saw was very polite but working away in a private office. There were no staff for check in or around if I had questions. The towel supplied was extremely overused and needed replacing and while I didn't expect cleaning I did assume toilet roll would be replaced and bins emptied but neither happened. I was simply looking for a bed last minute but I was so uncomfortable I left early. I could add so much more but I should end on the positives. It had parking and within walking distance to town centre. …

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed my stay. Harbour house is about a 15 minute walk from the centre of Sligo, the rooms were clean, Vincent was friendly and accommodating and we felt very welcome. The rooms are quite small however they were incredibly clean and quite comfortable. The shower pressure was slightly lacking but it was manageable and there was hot water whenever we needed it. Self service breakfast was sufficient, nothing fancy just a bit of toast and cereal and some yoghurts but it did the job and I think this is an excellent spot for the price. I would definitely stay again.

This is the closest place to being in a prison cell that you will get Damp, dark, dingy, stinky. The room was painted dark red, ceiling yellowish with a skylight window. Bars on the skylight to ensure we didn't escape. Springs sticking out of Mattress. Musky smell off everything including pillow cases (probably weren't washed after last guest) If you are not up for breakfast early enough you go without. Early birds get it all The kitchen is self service with not enough of anything to go round (If I wanted self service I would have stayed at home) Not one host to be seen for assistance or advice on places to see or go to COVID-19 is non existent. Absolutely no measures taken even though its advertised An absolute joke. A kip is the only word. This place should be closed down by health authority Im sorry I didn't take photos but I didn't want to insult my phone…

The accommodation stands out as a beautiful historic building amongst an industrial estate. The backdrop is an abandoned Bachelor beans factory, and although it’s not the usual scenic landscape I expected, it had a charm to it. The rooms offered everything that was needed- a clean bed and a hot shower. However, the kitchen could do with some renovation and there was a musky smell in the corridors. The location is ideal- 10 minute walk from Sligo town and a short drive to beautiful beaches. Also a great cafe for breakfast next door.

Run down is an understatement, unclean (kitchen unclean, breakfast tables still filthy when we checked in at 4pm!), room not ready at 4pm when we tried to check in, no electric in the morning, very smelly en suite rooms, nice girl in reception. Not great, honestly, stay elsewhere!

Very basic, small rooms. Good location. Friendly host. Plenty of breakfast provisions for a continental breakfast and you can cook your own if you prefer. This is not luxurious and there is no lift but adequate if you are looking for cheap accomodation.

The towel provided, (oddly, it was coloured black), was not clean and had been used by someone else! I dried my hands with it and felt a long hair entangling my fingers. When I inspected the towel more closely, I could see that it was covered in many very long blond hairs. Gross!
