Travel to 44 countries in 4 decades has caused me to form opinions. Among them is that Paris has the world's best grand elegant palace hotels (eg. Ritz, Bristol, Athenee, etc.) and the best small ones (Hong Kong And Singapore have the best contemporary ones, but that's for another review some day). l'Abbaye is a delightful example of the excellent... Charming and quiet, yet two steps away from restaurants, Metro, shopping. Some of the rooms are very, very small. More

we had a junior suite on the first floor. one of the quietest hotels i have ever stayed in. we had a little solarium, with a table and chairs, where we ate our continental breakfast in the mornings. too cold to be outdoors on the private terrace, although we could hear birds singing. no street noise at all, despite being... My husband and I stayed in the Classic room while our friends upgraded to the next level. Both rooms were perfect. The hotel is perfectly "French" and the service impeccable. Everyone goes out of their way to make you comfortable and sees to your every want or need. We will definitely stay here again and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The... More

My daughter and I stayed at Hotel de l'Abbaye last May on our way to Florence. We spent a beautiful three days in Paris, and the hotel is so wonderfully charming that it entices one to linger, even though the city's sightseeing beckons. The Hotel sits within a cozy courtyard, in a classic French building, which used to house and... More

I love small intimate hotels -no big chain please!- with charm and character and Hotel de l'Abbaye in Paris fits the bill perfectly: wonderful old building, quiet street, great garden (where one can enjoy a drink in summer), wonderful common rooms with a fireplace, bright and elegant sunroom, pretty decorations and furniture -all in traditional french style-, smallish but adequate... Stayed at this hotel for three nights. We asked for a quiet room on arrival and were assigned to a very nice room with big windows facing the gardens. It was great to wake up to the sound of birds and fountain, not traffic, in central Paris. The room itself was not big but totally charming with classic French interior... More

Excellent hotel. It is on the left bank, in St. Germain and in a peaceful setting. A 17th century convent that was transformed into a boutique hotel. The metro was 5 minutes away, and easy to walk to the Seine. The staff were professional, and helpful with adapting to France. We do not speak French and the staff made us... More

What a great little hotel. Utterly French, right down to the rather elaborate patterned fabrics and wallpapers that proliferate everywhere. The room we had (a regular sized one) was absolutely fine for the several days we spent there, and the lounge area next to reception is a lovely place to take a drink by the proper log fire. The complimentary... More

Just returned from our latest (23rd. or 24th.) stay and we continue to marvel at the consistency and grace of the hotel and its staff. Their redecorating program appears to be completed, keeping a fresh look for the old Abbey. Virtually no turnover in staff: the same faces we've been seeing for years. More
