Joakina is a jewel if you want peace and quiet. It's minutes walk from beach, old town, railway station etc yet is on a quiet street, has been renovated with heavy doors and double glazed windows and together, this makes for a wondrous silent retreat in a busy touristy city. After overcoming the mixup with arrival time...which I realised later was my own fault...everything else fell into place. Greeted by warmest welcome that Basque Country can give. We absolutely loved Pension Joakina! The photos don't do it justice. We stayed in a twin room (very clean and very comfy) with a beautiful little balcony looking out over the street. We ended up in some god awful hostle with no hot water, no sound proofing, and drunks stumbling aroudn the halls till 5am and then loud regge starting at 10.
