The rooms on the upper floors away from the street are the quietest. WiFi is free; must ask for code. Room was satisfactory; not fancy. Hotel was comparable to a Holiday Inn. Two subway stops are 5 minutes away. Can walk to the Prado (30 min.). Plaza Major, Mercado San Miguel and Botin Restaurant (famous for suckling pig) are a... More

I was booked in to this hotel by business partners, was a bit concerned, given the reviews. Yes, the entrance is rather plain (but there are very elegant fresh flowers in the entrance hall), but there's a nice lounge with skylight beyond the reception and a nice bar beyond that. It's a bit of a rabbit warren, with lifts in... More

Reading the comments here made me a bit dubious about whether to choose this hotel, but I am glad that I did. It's situated right between two Metro stops in a relatively quiet street, within easy walking distance to Sol, Opera etc. Madrid is really jumping and partying doesn't stop until 7.00am, so I wouldn't have fancied an hotel on... OK traditional hotel right in the centre of Madrid, a few minutes walk from Sol, Opera, Gran Via, Callao. Rooms are nice, ours was facing the inner small 'courtyard' so fairly dark but I guess cool and quieter due to that, ie no sunshine or street noise. Hallways and bathrooms definitely need a refresh, faced carpets and worn parket floors,... More

Summarizing the pros and cons into a few bullet points. Pros: - very central location, about 5 minutes walk from the metro and to the city centre - a generally comfortable room, old, but well maintained. Great bed and pillow (dare I say comparable to westin) - free 48 hours wifi (you need to ask from the reception. We only... More

Breakfast and the central location are the best advantages of this hotel. Breakfast is plentiful with big collections of cereals, fruits, yoghurts, different types of cheese, bread, cakes, pastry, fresh juices and whatnot. The Royal palace is just around the corner and so are 2 metro stations. All the main tourist attractions are within walking distance. Rooms are big and... More

This is not a design hotel etc. It is a traditional Spanish hotel. It always amaze me how practical and functional traditional spanish hotels can be. It is a pleasure to stay at this hotel. I have stayed here several times and will do so in the future aswell. The hotel has a very central location, close to Gran Via,... More

This is a good hotel for a citytrip with friends of your partner. Very good location: only a 2 minute walk form the Gran Via, Puerta del Sol is 20 minutes, Opera 4 minutes and Plaza Mayor about 15 minutes. Friendly staff, good service. The rooms are nice and very clean. Bathrooms are a bit outdated but clean and very... More

...having read some of the other reviews, I was dubious about my choice of hotel. True the entrance from the street is less than impressive, but once inside, the place is superb, and comfortable. I can't praise the excellent staff enough - they could not have been more attentive, helpful and courteous. Our room was big and well equipped. Only... More

Great location. Not a pretty hotel. The entrance looks like a drive way. Weirdly laid out hotel with a lobby in a room past reception. Almost hard to remember your way through the warren-like halls. I didn't love the service. Half the people were nice. A couple people were rude, like one of the men who served breakfast. I had... More
