We got the apartment on Calle Barcelona. It was clean and modern. Yes, it's on a busy street, 2nd floor, right over some restaurants, so it's quite noisy at night when everyone comes out, if you keep your windows open. If you close them, the noise insulation is pretty good, and with ear plugs you'll sleep like a baby. Location... More

My wife and I have been traveling for 5 months, we stayed at the Hostel Alaska (HA) just starting our second month, the second week in February, 2011. We often talk about what was our favorite or least favorite experience, food, etc. When we mention HA, it is in the category of least favorite lodging. HA is located about one... More

We stayed in a room with a double bed and an en suite bathroom. There were also 2 single beds in the room we were in so it could accommodate up to 4 people. The room was basic and the bed was stiff. There is another hostal which shares the floor as Hostal Alaska, but it seems that they are... More

This is a bit late, was actually there for 3 nights with my auntie and uncle (both in their 60's) in Sept '09. Must say that it was a fabulous stay ... location was fantastic, very near the Metro and right smack in Puerta del Sol! What more could we ask for? Security was good, as there was so many... More

My wife and I (both in our mid 60s) stayed at Hostal Alaska for 8 nights in mid February. We did so because we planned to make four day trips out from Madrid during our stay, and the location + price of this hostal cannot be beat. We stayed in Room 7, recommended by another Trip Advisor poster, and we... More

We booked a superior double room through Hostal Alaska. We actually stayed in a room that seemed to be operated by Hostal Oliver just across the hallway. The room we had wasn't half as nice as the ones shown on the website and in fact we were a bit disappointed on first sight. But, it was spacious, very clean and... More

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for 2 nights, a very good location for visiting and exploring Madrid. The room was comfortable and the staff were very helpful, one lady there in particular was very accommodating and pleasant and really helped us a lot during our stay and I am eternally grateful. If we end up in Madrid again we'd... More

My spouse and I have been staying at various hostels throughout Europe. We spent the 2nd weekend of January at Hostal Alaska and quite enjoyed it. It is located just off of Sol Station/City center and gives you immediate access to the metro, endless shops, restaurants, and attractions. Plenty of nearby bars with good atmosphere, but the hostel is quiet.... More

My boyfriend and I backpacked around Andalusia and wrapped up our trip in Madrid. We're both in our mid 20s/early 30s, and we both loved Hostal Alaska. It looks very sketchy from the outside, and remains sketchy looking until you are on the correct floor. However inside the room is spacious and clean, and the owner lives in a room... More

Having never stayed at a hostal before, it was a great first experience for me & my friend! My other friends forewarned me about the idea of a hostal & I can proudly prove them wrong now. Hostal Alaska is a quaint little place in the most ideal location you can want for a great stay in Madrid. It's literally... More
