Delighted to see Porta San Mamola back at No. 1 after a very short absence. Its where they belong and what they deserve. I just paid my third visit there in May and like going back to old friends. Lovely reception staff, very efficient and lovely restaurant staff who leave no stone unturned to get what you want. This is... More

This is no slick businessman's hotel, but a charming, slightly strange, small hotel within easy walking distance of the heart of Bologna. The service is extremely good -- friendly and thorough. Rooms are not luxurious, but very comfortable. The layout of the hotel reflects its unusual expansion history - rooms appear in the most surprising places. Two wonderful cats roam... More

The Porta San Mamolo is one of the sweetest hotels I've ever stayed in. Nice rooms and friendly and helpful staff. Perhaps the most charming aspect was the beautiful garden / breakfast area in the center of the hotel. They serve drinks and coffee there all day and it's sweet place to start your day or relax after touring the... More

A really great hotel about a 10 min walk from Bologna centre. Very clean and bright with a lovely breakfast room in a garden setting and a good selection of breakfast goodies. Good sized room, very clean and bright. The staff were always very friendly and knowledgeable. Can't think of anything that wasn't good and could only highly recommend this... More

A lovely restful family-run hotel just inside the entrance to the old city center. As soon as you arrive at Hotel Porta San Mamolo in Bologna you feel you are a part of a family. Roberto and his staff are genuinely friendly, helpful and welcoming. After a hectic 2 weeks elsewhere in Italy, within the walls of Hotel Porta San... More

My favourite hotel is probably the J W Marrott in Tomorrow Square, solely on the courtesy and friendliness of the staff. Well, this little hotel on the edge of the central district of Bologna could teach them a lot. The staff are helpful to a degree one rarely finds. The hotel itself is clean, roomy but basic and has great... More

What a wonderful hotel. Certainly the best hotel experience in Bologna. It will be the oasis of your entire trip, truly. The staff is fantastic, the courtyard is charming, the service is professional yet casual, just all around spectacular, and the overall experience is peaceful and restorative. My husband and I stay here every time we're in Italy even if... More

I very much enjoyed staying at this hotel for 1 night. Everything was good, including friendly service, very nice rooms and garden and relatively good location. Why not 5 stars? I'd maybe expect a bit more from breakfast and the hotel is still quite some walk from the city center. Could be quite scary for single ladies as the streets... More

One of the most memorable hotel stays. Rarely do you stay at a hotel where you get to know the staff on a personnel basis like the Hotel Porta San Mamolo. Mr. Roberto and his staff were the best. Could not have felt more at home if we would stayed with friends. The outdoor breakfast area is charming and the... More

Hotel Porta San Mamolo is the most welcoming hotel in Italy. Granted, I didn't stay in them all, but there is no way any could top the customer service and friendly attitudes of Roberto and his staff. There are cats in the courtyard and fresh cappuccino in the breakfast room. It's quiet and peaceful. The rooms are charming and up... More
