We chose this hotel because it seemed the best we found, with parking, in high heels walking distance of Osteria Francescana, where we intended to eat that night. Driving there is easy, as we enter the limited traffic area but it has no problem since we are staying at the hotel. We parked at the door, handed over the key... More

Whilst relatively well located, this as one of Modena's leading hotels does not do this beautiful town justice. Rooms are located down dark corridors and everything in them feel worn out and old. Bathrooms are more modern, and both bedrooms and bathrooms are clean. Breakfasts are ok, no more, and wireless Internet is only available in the main lobby and... More

This central Modena hotel is located just a 5 minute walk from the 'Ghirlandina' or Duomo. It seems you are entering an old building with origional frescos from the 18th century, rooms are very well decorated in luxury style. You can sleep quietly as the street is peaceful, there is also a very tranquil garden and a restaurant. The staff... More

Charming and old fashioned hotel, polite stuff that speak English and German. Good location near the center. All is in walking distance from the hotel. Nice garden. Clean rooms. Junior suite was nice and big in size. - Hardly any people staying in this hotel in July. They helped us to get our luggage from the car to our room.... More

The Canalgrande hotel is Modena is a quaint, slightly old fashioned hotel located in the heart of the town. the rooms are on the small side but well appointed. There is good storage space while the bed is comfortable. The bathroom is on the small side but the bidet was a welcome addition. The hotel is well located and is... More

If you are used to modern international hotels be prepared to step back in time. I suppose some of it could be seen as charming but I found it a little depressing. The location is great the ground are fine bit the interior is in need of some modernising. Having said that the room was clean and had everything that... More

The Canalgrande is right in the centro storico of Modena - the historic centre. It is a relatively old hotel, and quite old fashioned. I chose it because of its location and because of prior favourable reviews on this site. We really liked it. The welcome we received was very friendly and all the staff we encountered were too. First things first: Modena is pronounced with the stress on the first syllable. In the local dialect, it's Mod'na. Hotel Canalgrande is just on the edge of the historic city center, within walking distance of all attractions (but 15-20 minutes on foot from the train station.) We stayed for 5 nights, using Modena as a base camp for day trips... More

My husband and I stayed at Canalgrande for - fortunately- just one Night. The pictures on their HomePage are in our opinion very misleading. The hotel / our room and the halls were VERY worn down, and even smelled weird. Further more they forbid the use of the fridge for guest items. More

The main thing that remains in my memory in a very short stay (1 night) is the jovial man who served my breakfast esp the eggs (most delicious freshly cooked eggs no kidding) and the capucinos. It really made the day to start off with such a service. Breakfast buffet was much better in terms of quality, taste and service... More
