First, a note about Venice. It is completely saturateed with tourists, which can detract from the overall experience. I personally would tell people to bypass Venice, it is theme-parkish in many ways. If you must go, limit your stay to 1-2 days. Once you see it in person, the schtick quickly loses its charm in my opinion. La Calcina is... More

Our stay was fine, no complaints other than the size of the bath-shower room, which was a bit tight. The nice thing about La Calcina is that it's off the beaten path in Venice, in the Dorsoburo area. A water front room with balcony is nice, but very noisy because of all the boats. Though it requires a good walk... More

I stumbled upon this pensione while online. I was very pleasantly surprised. The cordiality of the staff is top notch . They are friendly, kind and helpful. The breakfasts are lovely and the restaurant they have is delightful. You can dine inside or on a lovely floating dock on the Giudecca canal. The location is a 10! 4 min walk... More

La Calcina is a wonderfully located and most charming small hotel right on the Guidecca canal with a sunny aspect and views of guidecca itself and short hop on the water bus if you fancy visiting the fabulous Palladio churches,( fantastic view from the campanile at the basilica on islola San Giorgio, to rival st marks) and the real off... An old, rustic pension, this hotel captures the essence of living the finer side in Milan. The building in itself was one of the preserved buildings in the island of Venice. The decor is fantastic in its antiquity; teak cupboards, wooden beds, and chairs, all preserved and in good condition. The hotel smelt fresh and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast... More

We enjoyed our stay at La Calcina very much. Our room was very clean, simple furnishings, and 2 lovely antique dressers. The bathroom is small, and as another review said, it was impossible to shower and not get water all over the floor. Be careful not to slip! The location is great. It was less than a 20 minute walk... More

It was my first time in Venice and I was lucky to find this place. The rooms were cozy, smartly furnished and spotless. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was a great deal at 110€ per night. The location is quite convenient. I would definitley recommend. More

My wife & I stayed at this hotel in June 2011. We are both 60. This hotel is an old house and is every bit of 300 years old, we guess. The rooms yes, are small. The bathrooms are... small and yes, when you shower, it is difficult to not get water all over. However, we would come back to... More

This hotel is in a great location. Easy to get to from the train station. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The only negative is the bathroom is small and the shower is so small and in an awkward corner, that it's nearly impossible to take a shower without getting water all over... More

...and you better reserve early. Pensione la Calcina overlooking the Guidecca canal is in a quiet neighborhood virtually free of tourist crowds and shoppers. The restaurant in la Calcina serves delicious meals. The vaporetto stops less than a block away from the front door. Santa Maria della Salute, the Peggy Guggenheim collection, and Accademia museum are only five minutes away... More
