Yes this hotel is run down, but it is clean and really cheap for Basel. We paid £60 a night through Octopus. The breakfast is an all you can eat continental (cereal, yougurt, meat, cheese, breads, oj and coffee) and was really nice. I simply can't recommend this hotel, we stayed here as part of a larger party with a major coach operator in the NW of England. The room was clean recently refurbished to some extent but still tatty. Spent a good week at the Alexander, two minor irritations: 1. Could do with tea/coffee facilities in the bedrooms. 2.
