I always wanted to visit Crete, but no big hotels or young nosy people. I've found this hotel on the internet. I'm so glad...When we came in she asked us to take off our shoes...we thought that was strange...but afterwards we've found out..she has spend many years and effort renovating this building and making this here place and a perfect... If you're questioning whether to stay at Byzance: if you have a car, go for it. While Pigi at first glance is not the 'dream destination' (there are still unfinished buildings around the village), Kristen's welcome and the hotel has tons of charm. You can tell Kristen has put a lot of effort into the decoration and it shows. The... More

Hello Ryan Thank you for the kind words and reviewing my place on tripadvisor! I know staying in a small Cretan village is very different to the beach resorts, but it is a great way to experience how the locals live day to day. I think the 'unfinished buildings' on the outskirts, are actually a couple of new houses and... More

What a place! Kind, open, friendly and comfortable – this is a killer b&b – having travelled extensively in Crete for over eight years I can tell you this is A class, first rate on every level – comfortable homely rooms, wonderful welcome from the owner, the best breakfast I have ever had at a b&b in Crete, not so... Staying outside Rethymno on our road trip in Crete was the best decision ever as we got to experience the quiet and authentic atmosphere of Pigi and Kristen's beautiful B&B. The village is just some 10 mins drive from Rethymno, and it's also a good place to explore the rest of the Central Crete from. Kristen can help with planning... More

We stayed in this wonderful hotel for 6 nights and we are so glad we did!! The place is simply amazing, like stepping back in time, as the owner, Kristen has done a wonderful job renovating it and making it look as it would have been some 500 years ago. We stayed at the Venetian room, on the top floor... More

This hotel (5 rooms, recently redone but in the spirit of the 16th century Turkish governor’s house it was) was totally charming and lovely. It's exactly what you would imagine if you created a miniscule Greek village in the hills away from the beach towns, where the streets are so narrow that it is either pedestrians or cars but not... We found Byzance through Trip Advisor, and given the great reviews, we expected a lovely stay, which was absolutely the case. Byzance is utterly unique--like stepping back in time, but with the comforts of modern bathrooms, wifi, etc. What we didn't expect was Kristen's wonderful ability to key into our interest in Cretan food, cooking, and markets, and her incredible... We found this wonderful B & B on the internet and could not have been happier. Though only about 15mins from Rethymon main town you really feel you have stepped back in time to stay in this quaint village. Kristen the owner made us feel very welcome and has done a fantastic job of restoring the old building and went... More

We recently stayed at Byzance and found the whole experience excellent. Chosen from our TripAdvisor reviews we originally thought it might be too far away from the main town. As it turned out, Pigi village is an ideal location for exploring the surrounding areas. Kristen was a fantastic host, giving us plenty of off-the-tourist-track advice of places to visit. The...
