This is a lovely, quirky building and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The enormous bed in my room was probably the most comfortable I've ever slept in and the breakfast was delicious. However, avoid room 25 (and possibly room 11 which I think is directly below it) because it has some very noisy equipment (I think a giant... More

My wife and I booked into the WC for my birthday weekend on 27th April. Really wanted to like the WC but couldn’t. We arrived after a rainy trip down the A1 at about 2:00 pm, an hour too early to get to the room. The receptionist was pleasant and welcoming, and looked after our case while we went to... More

We stayed in the William Cecil Hotel for one night while on vacation to see the lovely town of Stamford and the incredibly beautiful Burghley House. This is a lovely quirky old inn in the heart of an old stone village. The hotel property borders the Burghley House property but it is still a hike to get there (15-20 minutes... More

We stayed here for two nights in April. The welcome was friendly and the check in quick and easy. When we asked for a different room it was changed without fuss to one we liked better. This is, after all, a very old building and so the rooms vary in size and design. We had dinner the first night and... More

I usually stay at the George in Stamford for business, but had booked the William Cecil for a meeting, so decide to try its rooms out. I was very impressed with the rooms. I had booked late so I only had a choice of 2 rooms but they showed me both. the first was in the attic and being tall... More

A lovely hotel in the grounds of the Burghley Estate. Each hotel room is different and our bathroom was very large with the best shower I have ever seen. Breakfast was superb with lots of choice. The staff are welcoming and helpful and nothing seems too much trouble to them. We arrived before the check in time and were shown... More

Spent two nights there in mid-April and wished it had been more. Everyone very welcoming - receptionist showed us to our room and explained everything. Room (number 17, the Geisha Room) was large, with a beautiful bathroom and quite the best shower I've ever used. Bedroom was in middle of hotel so very quiet - just one high level window.... More

Booked the William Cecil through Secret Escapes for one night in April. The outside of the building is just like the rest of Stamford with the sandstone brickwork and hides such a great hotel. From the minute we arrived (2 hours before our check in time) we were treated as if we were special. We had access to our room... More
