This is a cool place. You can tell it dates back a few hundred years. The wooden beams in the ceiling are hand hewn. The floor creaks. The roof slopes. It is definitely not a modern hotel and it is very charming because of that. Yes they have wifi, fairly good sized rooms, and full english breakfast in the morning.... More

My wife and I had visited the Whipper-In on previous visits to Oakham, so when we were thinking about a weekend away with friends and their MGs we plumped on this hotel as our base for exploring Rutland. Town centre location is great and they have a car park, albeit "round the back". My overall impression of the experience from... More

As someone who has always desired to stay at the Whipper, I wanted to take my partner there for a romantic weekend. Although I understand other reviews who comment on the car parking , we found that on a market day, it is what it is!. We checked into our room, met some friends for coffee, and returned with the... We stayed at this hotel for 2 days last week, arriving on our anniversary, 29th March. We had read in some trip reports that the parking was difficult to spot and we did in fact miss it in the first instance. However a quick 'nip in' to the Hotel Reception (which was easy to find) gave us precise and easy-to-follow... More

There was 27 of us in 14 rooms and the staff coped very well. The food was hot and tasted good. The staff are fantastic and can't do enough for you. The hotel is very old and yes, could do with a bit of money spent on it but overall the main thing is 'for the price' it was excellent.... More

I booked a Friday and Saturday for my birthday week end and because I had some business in the area. Booking was easy and the receptionist who took the booking I met on Saturday was very helpful and friendly. When we arrived on Friday we found we had to park up the road in the hotel car park. First error... More

We stayed here for a couple of nights as part of a reunion group. (Apologies to anyone who found us a bit noisy and raucous!). Booked on a dinner bed and breakfast basis - most people has chosen their main meal beforehand but a few couldn't so there was a little bit of delay in serving, but couldn't be helped.... More

ordered 2 coffees (£2.75 each) - lovely cafetiere arrived and what looked like homemade biscuits - lovely we thought........poured the coffee and to our dismay it looked like water. another pot was eventually provided which was much stronger, biscuit was lovely. informed the soup was mushroom, but if i wasn't mistaken it was more like leek and potato with a... Dear Reviewer, I’m genuinely sorry that we have let you down to such an extent, and that your most recent lunch experience was marred by our product. I would like to assure you that our product (Coffee and shortbread) is very popular among oakhamians. I have spoken to our chef about your experience and I believe the coffee and lunch... More
