I actually stayed at the Royal Lion in 1994 while working in the area but the review system doesn't let me go that far back funnily enough. It's quite shocking that the reviews from the present day equate to exactly what I recall from eighteen years ago. Very dated and shabby decor throughout, the wind howling through the sash windows... Hopefully you are reading this before you took the plunge to stay at The Royal Lion Hotel. My Dad booked it last minute for Mum, Dad, my sister and I - there were two bedrooms available and the hotel included parking – that’s all my Dad looked in to. Mum and I looked on the website the day before we... More

I can't comment on the rooms much as I have not stayed here, but looking at the photo's tells me they need to upgrade to EU standards, to stay in this ever competertive market. I have been here for a three course dinner with friends, the food was not quite up to standard for what you are paying! We had... More

I booked this hotel last minute and was worried after reading the reviews. I was pleasantly suprised when we arrived yes the hotel and decor was a bit dated but so are a lot of tenby hotels. Our room overlooked the north beach splendid views . The room and bathroom was very clean there was fresh towels every day. The... More

We went to Tenby on impulse for the weekend. We had nothing booked, this was the only hotel that had room. 100 pounds for a 2 single bed room Saturday. Here is how we found it Negatives. Yes the receptionist was eating a sandwich behind the counter when we arrived. The place is dated it could do with a lick... More

After reading the reviews I tried to prepare myself. From the moment we checked in to the moment we left, this hotel was terrible. We were checked in by the only member of staff who was busy eating and serving behind the bar. Though we requested a double, our room had an extra bed in which along with the dated... More

Like some fellow travellers I booked the hotel before reading the reviews and the general consensus I agree with. The hotel is outdated and needs a complete upgrade. I accept this is no doubt expensive but the room rate does not reflect the standard of decor etc. It's a tough industry to be in but if your a traveller who... More

We stayed for two nights in this hotel and to be honest I would not return again. Our room was located right by the tiny lift and was very noisy, the room was dated and no effort had been made to try to hide the shabbiness. The worn carpet and warped wallpaper in the bathroom reflected the old and tired... More

Having read the reviews we more or less knew what to expect. Yes, It is very shabby and old fashioned and badly in need of a complete refurbishment.. The shower was pathetic but there was plenty of hot water for a bath. The door lock could probably be forced open with a nail file but the beds were good, linen... More

This hotel had great views. Although generally clean and tidy, the rooms were very dated. The lift looked as if it needed servicing. Breakfast was ok, nothing special. Car parking was difficult to find- located on the site of an old cinema. That said, grateful to be able to park as its quite difficult in around where the hotels are... More
