Driving up to Erice is a nightmare if you have a height phobia, but it is a charming little town and well worth the drive. Erice is really worth a visit and turned out to be one of the most interesting old cities I have visited in Italy over the past 10 years. most rooms noisy from passing revellers until after 2 am. At breakfast, toast was 'impossibile': they hide the fresh fruit, no fresh juice and bad bread.
