Overall I was disappointed when I first arrived here, but quickly came to like it. To clarify why I was disappointed, I'm used to other European and North American Hotels. On arrival the outside of the hotel resembles an old fort or prison with a tower in one corner, but once past the front 'gates' you enter a Mediterranean world... More

I stayed here on business for two months, so i got the full experience of this resort. The resort is located on a nice Bay, which if it wasn't for the foul odours coming in off the water every morning and evening, would be quite pleasant. The hotel is made up of whats left of an old tuna fishery, dating... More

After few years I spent another weekend in this unique hotel built in a historic building used to process tuna fish. It is a beautiful location, in one of the most amazing parts of the Mediterranean Sea, easy access to Trapani, Erice, San Vito, Riserva dello Zingaro, etc... First negative surprise when I book a request of 180 Euro per... More

We reserved two of the apartment units through RCI, which share "resort" facilities with the hotel clients. Some of the following comments therefore apply to the RCI component, while others relate to the hotel in general. This place was a major disappointment. The units: lack air conditioning, lack oven or microwave, have very limited hot water, definitely need fumigating (my... More

Lots of previous reviews so I won’t repeat them where they coincide with our own experience (location; hard to find etc etc). When we stayed in October 2010 the place was pretty much empty except for a coachload from Studiosus in Germany. The hotel gave us the option of pretty much any room on the top floor of the main... We had already been warned about this place by other reviews, and alas - it was true. First of all: the place is hard to find: the signs stop at a certain moment, and although the hotel is truly GIGANTIC, there are NO signs on or near it!!! When calling the hotel for assistance, I got a non-English speaking receptionist,... More

We enjoyed a fab week at this hotel 2 years ago when it was under management of the NH Hotel group and what a difference that has made to this hotel. It has disimproved totally and is a shadow of its former self. My previous review was glowing http://www.tripadvisor.ie/ShowUserReviews-g194757-d289437-r18376060-FH_Tonnara_Di_Bonagia_Resort-Erice_Sicily.html but I am afraid I had to write this to address... I really don't know what to write about this place - a lot of the negative reviews on here are definitely deserved. It's caught between being a fairly cheesy Italian family resort, and wanting to be a high-end boutique style place. First is the price - it's priced like a 5* resort (which it certainly is not). We managed to... More

This hotel has a great structure in an amazing location. An old typical tonnara with a saracen tower few minutes by car from Erice, Trapani and San Vito lo capo. Sounds perfect! The problem is that it is still a "would like to be" situation. Prices are already in line with a 5 star resort but the rest really need... More

This hotel is actually 7 kilometres from the town of Trapani and in a small seaside village with little going for it. The rooms are basic, but well maintained. The staff are friendly and helpful. We didn't eat in the restaurant because the menu was very average and expensive, but breakfast the next morning was average. We ate our night meal in a...
