The Hotel Hortensia is a fairy good place for the Alsace area, not so far from Strasbourg but in a really beatiful site over an hill pointing to St. Odile monastery. The accomodation is eighty style but a little bit left to its own destiny, due to some frequently changes on management. The rooms are not so big, but clean... More

Family of three doing self-guided bike tour of the Alsace stayed one night. From the moment we rolled up to the door and saw the elegant and large outdoor pool, my daughter started vibrating with excitement! We both spent the early evening splashing and laughing and likely annoying the largely adult crowd. There was a lovely bar by the pool,... More

We enjoyed our stay at Les Hortensias. Some positives: -The place is a mansion--it clearly was and remains an elegant establishment -Rooms were clean, comfortable, includes a bathtub -It is quiet -Has a swimming pool -Excellent breakfast including meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, eggs, etc. -Receptionists were friendly and accommodating A possible negative: -Hotel is not in the downtown area of... The Hotel is pretty ok, assuming you don't pay more than around EUR 100. The pool is really nice. The restaurant was a disappointment. The food was mediocre and the service unprofessional. They were nice, but just not up to the task. If it would be half the price, one could be ok with it.

We had booked a double room and was offered Room 100. This room is located on the ground floor, inbetween the public Gents and Ladies toilets, It is next to the main bar and on the other side of the hotel from all the other hotels. We refused the room and were given another one immediately. I was annoyed that... More

We booked this hotel because of child facilities. By check-in the manager informs us of a private party around the pool, which should finish at 16:00. What a joke, pool occupied all evening as well. Our so-called superior room, was as far from a superior room as it can be. Would I stay here again? No chance...

Many fine reviews so we expected something a little different. Nice enough accommodation, excellent staff, lovely little town, but the hotel itself a rather odd and not quite successful mix of 50s and modern with some nicer older touches in the public areas. Perhaps best in summer when the pool would be nice. Excellent meal, reviewed separately.

Hotel Les Hortensias is a beautiful hotel in the middlelof the Elzass. Its location just outside the centre of Barr, on a hilly patch is great. It has a lovely pool, lovely (and enough) deckchairs. Good service at the pool (although it would be easier if the poolbar would have been opened). THe atmosphere in the hotel was professional and... More

A beautiful location, a stunning pool, right on the wine route in Alsace. Very clean rooms and an excellent breakfast. We had a fine dinner in the restaurant, but they were unsure how to handle food allergies, which created some confusion. Lack of air-conditioning was offset by the possibility of sleeping with open windows, but a room fan would have... More

We were in the Barr area for about 45 minutes before we managed to find the place. Our SatNav was not much help and some other guests we got chatting to took even longer. A bit more research/detailed info/directions would have been helpful. From the fotos I expected the hotel to be out of town and for the rooms to... More
