I had trouble finding the place in the dark as there was no illuminated sign and the building was in darkness. The given address "Zup du Beau Marais" defeated both myself and my sat-nav and the next line "Angle rue Greuze et Rue Salvador Allende" which I took to mean "on the corner of Rue Greuze and Rue Salvador Allende"... One of the items that wasn't clear to me was that there is no reception at this hotel after 21:00 hrs, so if the room next to you decides to stay up late listening to loud music there is pretty much nothing you can do be lie awake and get angry. I don't have a lot positive to say at... More

Good location and easy to find. Staff friendly and helpful. Room very basic but this is reflected in the price. No hot water and had to run the taps and showers for a long time to get warm water More

I reserved this hotel in November 2011 for the night of 20 March 2012 - a flexible reservation. I recently suffered an accident which necessitates hospital appointments up to 21 March 2012. I was unable to cancel the reservation on the internet. I rang the hotel yesterday and requested (in French) that they cancel the reservation. The woman whom I... More

Was apprehensive having red a previous review. Room was basic, a bit tatty but everything worked. Bed was comfortable enough. Walls are thin and you hear sounds from the coridoor, so earplugs advised if you are a light sleeper. Breakfast Le petite dejeuner looked meagre, until you ask the receptionist for bread, she then brings a few croissants and a... More

Dont even consider staying. My son was covered with bites from insects in the bedroom. The so called full continental breakfast consisted of 1 off stale bagette and a few yoghurts. I prepaid for breakfast but did not take it when I saw what was on offer. They then refused to refund the payment. The worst hotel I heve ever... More

We stayed here as a stopover on our return to Dover. It was relatively cheap, so we got what we paid for - somewhere to sleep. The receptionist was welcoming, the rooms were clean, but small, and the walls very thin. Some noisy residents returning late at night did not do much for a good night's sleep. There was a... More

We stayed here for one night after arriving in Calais. Midnight arrival meant auto check in used but very easy. Corridors were a bit manky and yes, mould was a bit prevalent in the shower room, but clean beds and good breakfast. Told kids to stuff their faces as long drive ahead! At €20 each online, can't complain with extra... More

Admit it, Calais is a ghost city. In this hotel, you get great value for your money. It's clean and quite cheap. And it's quite far from Calais' center, but as I said before - it's a ghost city, it took some time to find open bistro.. We spent there only one night when we were on the road from... More

Balladins Calais Universite is one of the cheapest hotels catering for people wanting a night's rest in Calais before catching the boat to Dover - exactly what we were looking for. The hotel is easy to find on the main route from the city centre to the port. Check in is quick and efficient, with a charming & helpful young... More
