5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2013 NEW

We stayed for two nights, Friday/Saturday and had the 'Nest' on the top floor. A very clean and tidy room with added little touches to make us feel at home. The 'emergency box' in the wardrobe was very thoughtful and contained the things travellers forget...eg toothbrush, plasters, deodorant etc. We were made very welcome by Sue and Frank who were... Thank you very much for your lovely review - we can't wait to share it with Sue & Frank :-) This was their first time looking after Sheriff Lodge for us - but it won't be their last. There is one thing I must bring up though. You mention in your review about '...most customers having small dogs in their... More

Kate & Alan, B&B hosts are a formidable team. We enjoyed a large, clean room, gigantic breakfasts and snack friendly tea/coffee trays. The B&B is situated closeby to Matlock shops, easy driving access to Haddon Hall, Bakewell, and walking up a very steep hill, a handy pub. The best bits were Kate's breakfast starts...not crazy early, Alan's route walk suggestion... More

Three of us stayed at Sheriff Lodge for 4 nights in May. From the moment we arrived, we felt that we were in a home from home. Our rooms were comfortable, spacious and well looked after. Breakfast is really special with so much choice and the cooked breakfast was plentiful, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. I have stayed in... More

We stayed here over the Easter holidays, during the week of all the snow and ice - we were greeted by Gemma and her partner, whilst Kate and Alan were having their own holiday in Norfolk, and treated to a very welcome cup of tea on arrival, after what felt like a long snowy trek from the station (really it... One of the reasons we picked the B&B was because of the excellent ratings and we certainly weren't disappointed. The room was great, comfortable bed, lovely big bathroom and beautiful views. The breakfast was one of the best I have ever eaten in a hotel and B&B - the homemade bread was very yummy. More than anything Kate and Alan... More

We booked at the last minute to stay for a weekend at the start of January. When we arrived we realised that a lot of the activities we had planned were closed for winter but Kate and Alan came up with lots of alternatives, even offering us their bikes. They know the area really well and made sure we got... More

We stayed only one night but would definitely go back anytime. A warm welcome from Kate who showed us to our room and offered us refreshment as soon as we arrived. She is also full of information about local restaurants. Our room was lovely and the bed was both massive and oh so comfy! (My partner is 6ft 7 and... More

Thanks for your lovely review - and you are mind readers. We already have the hooks but were waiting until this weekend to fit them when Alan is free from his 'day job' as an officer in the Fire & Rescue Service to fit them. We look forward to seeing you soon - and don't forget folks ALL our beds... More

A very warm welcome from Allan and Kate, a really first rate place to stay. So refreshing to have your expectations more than exceeded when visiting a british B&B. Smart, comfortable, quirky/funny rooms. Excellent food, especially the home-made bread and marmalade. The recommended local pub (The Sycamore) provided excellent food and beer. What more could you ask for? Thank you.

Smart, comfortable quirky and funny - this sounds like a great place to stay - think I'll try it one day:-) I think the quirky/funny aspect that you refer to is the efforts that we've gone to to keep the character of this wonderful former Edwardian's Residence (with parts dating back to 1740).
