- 2 time award winning architecture - Allegedly Laurence Rockefeller sent his architect to live on this beach for a year before deciding on the orientation of this building. It shows. - The building just has a feeling of deep, roots and stability. I don't say this about very many places (if any) but there is almost something spiritual about... More

Upon arriving, I discovered that my online reservation had somehow not been entered into their system and they weren't expecting me. I was fine with that as they were able to get a room ready relatively quickly. While I waited I went to the salon to book a manicure. To my surprise they were able to take me right away... More

Haven't stayed here in a while, we have been staying at the hualalai because our kids like it better there (mauna kea has only one pool, not really for kids) and I guess we all do now. We used to love staying here, but our latest stay was poor. First, there were lots of ants. Not just in the fruit... More

Once upon a time Mauna Kea Beach Hotel was THE place to go to if you wanted an extra-ordinary experience. In the last two decades other fabulous 4-5 star hotels have emerged along the Kohala coast. I think the hotels that will stand out will be those that consistently extend 5 star level of service and dining experiences. This is... More

The Mauna Kea is an EXTRA special resort. I've never stayed anywhere like it, and I never want to stay anywhere else again. It is extremely upscale, classy, clean, luxurious, though totally unpretentious as well. The hotel itself is not overly grand, though it exceeds expectations in every way possible. The lobby is beautiful because it lets the view speak... More

The balance of this resort is ideal. The ocean view rooms in the tower are amazing, the open feel and breeze throughout the main building is fresh and tropical and the beach is candidly as good as any beach can be. My only negative may be the beds are softer than we like but I think that is a personal... More

Once the original Rock Resort, someone once described Mauna Kea as a cross between a luxury hotel, sculpture garden and secret archeological site. Breakfasts while humpbacks and their babies are breaching and frolicking in the water. Koi in an in-door stream. 9 a.m. tennis with Dan, Hector, Wayne or Craig to start the day off right. Generations of family coming... More

Mauna Kea Beach Resort is as good as it gets. The crescent shaped white sandy beach is gorgeous, and usually calm and very safe for swimming, SUP, and snorkeling near Manta Point. We have been there a half dozen times, including the last two years, in addition to our honeymoon back in its Rock Resort days. The room improvements were... More

My wife and I and two sons (6 and 9) have stayed here and the sister resort Hapuna Beach. It is the nicest place to stay on the big Island. It has a beautiful perfect beach with fabulous snorkeling, great tennis/workout facilities and the golf looked great (we don't golf). The food is also quite good (although I recommend making... More

This hotel and the location are perfect. It may sound silly but there is so much aloha here. If you want frills or excitement go somewhere else. If you want a truly Hawaiian experience then this is it. I've been several times and will come again.
