We stayed at the Abai Jungle Lodge as part of a 3 night trip when we were in Sabah. The first night was on Turtle Island (Selingan Island), the second was at the Abai Jungle Lodge and the third was at the Kingabatangan Riverside Lodge. It was organised through SI Tours a few weeks before we traveled. It was idyllic.... More

We stayed for two nights at Abai Jungle Lodge as part of a 4 day 3 night tour arranged by SI tours. We were met at the airport by our tour guide, Leo, who was very friendly and knowledgeable. After a night on turtle island, and a trip to Sepilok Orangutang Rehabilitation Centre, we started our journey to Abai Jungle... More

Our chalet was basic, with no air conditioning, which is what we had expected. It was reasonably clean, and comfortable, and overall was to a perfectly acceptable standard, considering the location. Like most visitors we had come for the river safaris, which were excellent, we saw lots of wildlife including the Pygmy elephants, various types of monkeys and Orang-utans. We... More

If you are looking for pampered 5* luxury with plush bathrooms this is not your place. If you want to eat your breakfast in the jungle with a wild orang utan swinging through the trees above you or to get within two yards of a sleeping kingfisher or to see Christmas trees of fireflies then it very definitely is. Food... More

We went to the abai jungle lodge, as a part of one week trip with a group of friends ( we also visited the riverside lodge and turtle island ). First time we discovered eco-tourism, and it was just amazing. Our guides: Junior, Rémy and Jahja were great, and spotted many wild animals for us: monkeys, elephants, kingfishers, crocodile, snakes...... More

My boyfriend and I visited Abai Jungle Lodge in April 2013 as part of a three day tour of Abai, Selingan Island and Sepilok with SI Tours Borneo. The tour was fantastic and our guide at Abai, Erdy, was knowledgable and interesting with fantastic eyesight for spotting wildlife we would have missed! We saw a herd of wild pygmy elephants... More

The accommodation is basic but an ideal setting for seeing the wildlife. Unfortunately the reason the wildlife is abundant is the decreased jungle areas along the banks but the guides are great at spotting well hidden animals and birds so you can get to see masses. I would recommend the unset cruise but it takes a bit of courage to... More

I chose this lodge above the others for its proximity to Sandakan, isolation from other lodges and price. If your time is limited this is the lodge to choose. We were collected from our hotel in Sandakan, taken to the jetty and, after a pleasant boat ride, were at the Lodge a couple of hours or so later. This Lodge... More

I and my wife stayed 2 nights at Abai. This was just the beginning of our 2 month trip around SEA and later India. The lodge is very good. Good fascilities, tasty food. I think the location was the best, since there are no other lodges around and it is very quiet and the river is not busy with other... More

We travelled to Abai as part of an organised trip to Sabah. After a high speed boat ride of about an hour starting in Sandakan, we arrived at this oasis of calm in the jungle. It is of wooden construction with lovely open air verandah for food. The rooms were clean and less basic than we were expecting, having en-suite... More
