In a world where hotels all begin to look alike it is rare to find something genuinely different and memorable. Staying at Count Kalnoky's guesthouse is just such an experience. Four of us spent two nights at Miklosvar and we are keen to return for a longer stay. Our cottage was fitted out in authentic Transylvanian village style - with... More

We stayed at Count Kalnoky's for five days. It is a beautiful character guesthouse in a picturesque village. If you want to experience the real Romania then this is the place to stay. There are so many things we loved about it; some of which I will detail: the excursions on offer are definitely worth doing - particularly the one... More

We stayed there one night during our vacations in Romania. The place: was like a paradise in the middle of nowhere, we are driving through bad muddy roads and villages reminding us of previous century, not from aspects of medieval villages you see generally in Europe, but third world images as far as the quality of life people live there.... A dozen of us headed east to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday and Count Kalnoky's guesthouse promised something a little out of the ordinary. Communication was excellent from the outset with all emails being clearly answered. Transfers were efficient and flexible - we were able to stop in Sighisoara on our way from Targu Mures airport. It was bitingly cold... More

I felt moved to write this review after reading one or two of the more negative responses to this hotel. My sister and I stayed here for a week back in January 2008, and had fantastic and unforgettable time. Count Kalnoky's Guesthouses are anything but conventional and in order to appreciate them, guests need to be prepared to leave behind... More

I have been to this guest house many times, with friends and family, and each time was better than the last. It is the one place in Romania I've come across that take care of you completely in terms of daily trips -- to ancient villages and forests and caves. If you are in Romania or planning to come here... More

We chose this location to celebrate my mother's birthday. Miclosoara is not far from Brasov, only 36 km, and the directions provided on the website helped us to reach easily. The village is very beautiful, with typical Transylvanian houses. We were greeted very warmly, with traditional tuica (local brandy). Accommodation was made to "lower houses", in a large courtyard, there... More

Transylvania is in a time warp. Think rural UK in the 1930's. This agricultural area is strip farming by horsepower. Count Kanaolky has several cottages and inns in the area between Brashov and Sighiasoira. We stayed at Miklosoira in the 'Serf's House' which is adjacent to the inn. It was entirely comfortable with an adequate bathroom, clean, and furnished with antique... More

My partner and I have just returned after an amazing honeymoon in Transylvania, most of which was spent at Count Kalnoky's Guesthouses. We spent 7 nights at the guesthouses in Miklosvar - the first 3 in the spooky old manor house and the rest in the lower guesthouses - then went up to the guesthouses in Zalanpatak. The Manor House... I was expecting a lot since the place is very well promoted within the expats community in Bucharest, but the reality stroke me. I've travelled around Romania quite a lot in the last 6 years or so. I've been to Transylvania many many times, on my own or with visiting friends. So, spending some time in a typical Transylvanian village... More

I can assure you that we use organic and local produce whenever possible. Our village cooks prepare such meals as they would cook on Sundays for their own family guests. The food is locally authentic and tasty enough to receive the appreciation of the vast majority of our guests (see other reviews). It is certainly not meant to be like... More
