We ate here on a Saturday lunch time as a welcome halfway stop on a walk. The pub is obviously very popular with the tables soon filling up. The menu is written on chalk boards in the entrance hall which causes a little but of congestion but is part of the fun. It was a nice touch to be able... More

We stayed at the Hatchet Inn for 2 nights B & B and we also ate our evening meals in the pub (it is in the middle of nowhere). The rooms are clean and have all the facilities you need but the main thing is the building and the surroundings, we stopped in the thatched building (rooms 5 to 7),... More

Had a meal here on a Saturday night with no booking, staff were very friendly and accommodated us with no fuss, food was very good all homemade and very tasty! The homemade banoffe pie was to die for! Reasonably priced and we will be going back.

A lovely low-thatched country pub down windy lanes close to the Wiltshire/Hampshire border, with a vibrant colllection of locals and an engaging landlord. A good selection of beers (Timothy Taylor, Otter etc.) and good food. And a separate accommodation block at the back of the pub ensures a quiet night away from the bustle of the bar.

If you really want a weekend away from London, but don’t want to drive to Cornwall this is great place to go, is only one hour and 15 minutes, down the M3, and A 303. Loads of brilliant walks, not far from Stonehenge, Stockbridge (Fly Fishing)Longleat, and Kennet and Avon canal. Plus There is a great beer garden, log fire,... More

This idillic setting is great for lunch and a walk. It was relatively busy for a Tuesday lunchtime. I like ordering at the bar rather than waiter waiting. The enormous log fire inviting. The food is plentiful and satisfying. Speciality coffees are always a bonus. Worth hunting out in Lower Chute.

Beautiful location, huge log fire, dog friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The food is great, it is unpretentious but stylish. Friendly and attentive landlord and staff. Good choice of beers and wine. In my opinion the best village pub in the area. Good accommodation and breakfast. Superb for walkers, or those that like a tranquil unspoilt hostelry and setting.

Location of pub absolutely beautiful. Service slightly lacking, delay getting booked in, having to wait in line at bar behind four drinkers then met by grumpy landlord who seemed put out that we had arrived. Room 2 had sink with dirty taps (which wouldn't turn off properly) and shower had obviously not been cleaned properly. Dead moth on windowsill and... More
