It's too good to keep secret although we would like to. Once a year at least we are drawn back to the Sans Souci Inn to chill out in this delightful and inexpensive little eco-haven. We love the adobe Mediterranean-style rooms in their garden setting, and the choice of enjoying a coffee or a wine in our private area or... More

You simply have to eat here if you're staying. The food is delicious! The evening meals are exceptional and the breakfasts are well worth it! (though be warned, the coffee and tea offered at breakfast are not included in the price - only downside of the whole stay!) The rooms are very clean and have a great Mediterranean feel. The... More

We love everything about this place, from the colourful, interesting Mediterranean-style buildings, to the lovely garden, to the delicious meals and well-selected wines at the restaurant. The proprietors are very welcoming, but not intrusive. The shared kitchen and bathroom are both beautiful and extremely well-equipped. We took advantage of the laundry facilities, including a great clothesline for drying, and the... More

We found this to be a welcoming, private and peaceful environment and great value for money! We appreciate the eco-friendly philosophy. The restaurant also served top quality organic evening meals. This was a unique and authentic experience. We will certainly be back!

We stayed for three nights in the self-contained unit. Our experience there was a mixed bag. First the plus side. The location is excellent, close to the beach with good access to both Takaka and Abel Tasman National Park. The unit is spacious, with a large well equipped kitchen. There is definitely a funky, "only in Golden Bay" quality to... More

Firstly, we only ate here and stayed elsewhere so we cannot comment on the accomodation. They have one sitting a night and its a fixed menu so make sure you ring and book, the night we went it was a Morrocan lamb slow cooked meal. We were staying a short distance down the road and could smell it cooking as... More

We stayed in this unique inn for 2 nights and enjoyed the quiet location and beautiful grounds. Eat in the restaurant at least once if you can, the cooking is superb. The beach is 2 minute’s walk away and Takaka is 10km drive so it’s a great place to base yourself in.

Despite my wife being advised at booking that the evening meal could be confirmed up to 4pm,on check-in at midday we were surprised to be told that the restaurant was fully booked. Seemed odd to us that casual diners are given priority over guests staying at the place, and this ,coupled with a rather formal and unfriendly introduction to the... More

Sans Souci has been my favorite place to stay in my several trips to NZ over the years. Lovely, peaceful, and friendly staff. The rooms are comfy and have french doors opening out the back for privacy. And a central courtyard out the front for a communal area. Nice kitchen to cook your own meal or a wonderful meal cooked... We stayed here for 4 nights on a summer road trip. It was a great spot, close to the beach. This is a family run "inn" and very focused on this as a concept - and for the most part this worked very well. Rooms are large and comfortable gathered around a lovely courtyard. There is a shared lounge and... More
