One night only whilst walking canal path. Ideal location, warm welcome, good food, and plain but comfortable location. Our evening meal, soup followed by fish and chips £12.50 - good portions, fine taste. Breakfast, full English £5.50 excellent value. Room looked a little tired but it provided everything that was needed and was comfortable. Ideal location for Basingstoke Canal.

Stayed recently on a warm weekend. The rooms were quiet and comfortable. The setting beside the Basingstoke canal was very peaceful and relaxing. I could have sat at a table in the sun all day. The staff were helpful, particularly with my arriving late. Would happily go back.

Turned up late afternoon with my Colleague to find it 'raining' in the bar and restaurant area. The problem apparently being a leak from the toilet in my allotted room above. a few hours did not seem to cure the problem so with a lot of prompting from me I was offered a transfer to a sister hotel a few... I had booked into this hotel as I was on business nearby. However traveling by train to get there I collapsed with back pain. I arrived very late to book in but the staff could not have been more helpful they made me a snack helped me settle into my room. The next day I could not move and had... More

We visited today as guests of our friends for Sunday lunch. The sprawling building is uninspiring but the location by the restored Basingstoke Canal is lovely and worth a visit for that reason alone! We sat outside in lovely weather to make the most of the view inside however was dark and dismal with not many staff to be seen?... More

A very good location with very little traffic noise. The room was a good size with work space if needed,a good sized TV and a trouser press. The bathroom was small but functional. Food can be ordered in the pub/restaurant opposite and taken to the room if you wish. Alternatevely all the usual takeaways are a very short drive away.... More

We recently ate at the Potters Inn and the service was awful. The lady behind the bar was rude and monosyllabic. She looked like she had no enjoyment of her job and we were trouble being there. The roasts (2 for £11), were fine. The vegetables were cooked well and the meat was tender and the portions were good. The... More

If you want an air-conditioned room in London/SE and you have well under £100 to spend this may be just about your only option. It's also that architectural rarity: built like an American motel (doors to an external walkway) but situated in England. Not glamorous but not grubby either. Worst thing: lumpy mattress. Best: aircon, decent value and, well, quirky.

The service is awful. None of the staff look like they want to be there. The lady behind the bar (sarah she said her name was) was rude - whilst I was waiting at the bar waiting to be served she carried on shouting her conversation across the bar before achknowledging me and carried on being rude and arrogant. There is no reception or restaurant, but a pub/restaurant opposite where you get your key. As it was a Saturday night, the pub didn't open until noon next day, so no breakfast and no checking out - you dropped your key into a box. The room smelt damp and musty, but the bed was comfortable, the room was quiet but... More
