I have been visiting the Old School for many years as I organise group walking weekends and whenever we stay there it is always a great experience. This is budget accommodation and as such all of my friends think it is superb value as the extras you get are more often associated with more expensive B&B's. There is tea/coffee available,... More

the owners could not be more welcoming and helpful. They are very helpful and very family friendly (they put up their own travel cot for us and lent us a towel 2 dry slide in kids playground opposite!). Unfortunately this could not make up for pretty basic food at medium range price (8.95 for what appeared and tasted like a... More

We decided to break a trip to Aberdeen from Oxford about halfway. We tried to get a room in one of the cheaper chain hotels, but got blown up in the minefield of their website, so a short search on TripAdvisor brought up The Old School. We contacted Steve Dunkinson & agreed to send a deposit for our £60 overnight... More

Fantastic family run B+B. Welcoming and clean. Nothing too much trouble. Very friendly owners who will do anything to help and ensure your stay is comfortable. Very accomodating for children including a young baby. Food very good - homecooked. Tea room to be recommended, especially the deserts and cakes. More

The manager was friendly, and the place looked very traditional and olde worlde from the outside. However we weren't impressed with the room. The window was tiny which made the room very dark. The bed was the smallest double I've ever seen. There was paint peeling off the radiator, the headboard was hanging off. Only one mug between two of... More

Disappointed! The attractive photographs of this B&B were sadly not reflected by the accommodation provided: On entering, the lounge looked and felt like entering a youth hostel – dark and dreary decor with mis-matched furniture and pile of ironing, along with rotary iron in one part of the room. Our bedroom was very basic, which would have been fine, but... More

We stayed one night here and where welcomed from the start. We had a nice meal and the desert was excellent. Nice friendly family looked after us and nothing was too much trouble. They even made us lunch for our long bike ride the next day. More

Very homely, warm, clean, with excellent breakfasts and comfy beds. Arrive early and try the Tea Room for lunch and yummy cakes, all home made, you can see them cooking in the kitchen. Lovely welcoming family, nothing is too much trouble and they even liked our goofy dog. Beautiful views, backing directly onto the Howgills complete with fell ponies.Pity they... More
