Me and my boyfriend stayed in a "stylie" tent for three weeks while looking for a house in the area. It was definately some pretty awesome glamping! This resort has everything you could want or need and is its own little community in itself in port douglas. The bar is the busiest in port with the best atmosphere. the bathrooms... More

We stayed as a family in a triple room for a couple of nights. A bit concerned when we first arrived as our room was very close to the kitchen, lounge, bar etc. we didn't hear a noise all night, either night. Quite a walk into town 20 mins approx. but safe pavement. The walk along the beach to town... More

So arrived here in Port Douglas, after getting the free shuttle bus the resort offers from cairns. On first getting there the staff were very friendly and welcoming and showed me to my room which smelt of booze and was dark (a few of the guys did night shifts so slept during the day, fair enough but was bit of... Hostel Location; Port Douglas is a good base for trips to Daintree and the Tablelands. The town is a 20min walk and there's a Coles Supermarket. Restaurants are pretty expensive though. Postives: + Very helpful and friendly staff. + Good storage in the air-conditioned rooms, inc a fridge. + Excellent onsite bar with huge kitchen area for your own cooking.... More

It was really nice hostel, with a good atmosphere. Pool a little dirty, and kitchen full of flies and not cleanest, but not bad. But still really liked it there. I was in 4bed mixed dorm, really liked we had lockers. Bit of a trek to the town too maybe 10-15mins.

I was nervous staying in a hostel and on my own for the first time! But i met amazing people! Dougies is a great hostel, they have a bar, pool, tv room, and huge kitchen! They dont provide free brekky which kinof sucks, but the price is reasonable! It's like a out door cabin! Laid back hostel!

We stayed here for a couple of nights and found it great value. Although a little further from town that we wanted, we were lucky we had a car. And there is also heaps of parking around. The bar was always packed each night, and very friendly travellers. We werent really around too much in the days, as we did... More

We stayed for two nights in a twin room and found it comfortable and clean. The staff are very helpful and informative about local attractions. We used the free shuttle coming from Cairns and then back to the Cairns Airport at the end of our stay. This was a significant bonus saving us from taking the bus. The staff organized... More

This hostel somehow manages to provide the facilities and service expected in a hotel, whilst maintaining hostel prices. The bar is so cheap. Most drinks are $5 and that isnt even happy hour! The camping ground is well appointed and close to the amenities blocks. The rooms are clean and well equipped with lockable storage and the bunk beds are... More

I stayed here on a stopover on my way back from Cape Trib. One of the selling points for me was that there's an inhouse bar - I thought it would be easy to meet people, but it seemed to be full of long term people who all knew eachother. I didn't spot any other solo travellers while I was... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Dougies is run by a bunch of us who had lots of fun backpacking around places of the world before, so we decided to start a hostel ourselves. We have the pretty relaxed atmosphere, without all of the formal procedures that some hostels have. Our philosophy is 'kick back and relax at Dougies'. We have all of the facilities that a fun loving backpacker could ever need, including a bar, refreshing swimming pool, free bbq facilities, shop (coke, ice-creams, chockies, etc), a huge self-cook kitchen, laundry, internet, satellite TV (really big one), hire bikes, fishing rods, tour desk and of course accommodation (doubles, twins, share rooms, camping, van sites and our own stylish canvas tents). But once you see our tropical gardens and cruisy front lawn you might just want to lay back and relax under a palm tree, kick back in a hammock, by the pool or you may even like to unwind on the grass and soak up some of the Far North's warm tropical sunlight. ... more   less
