This cute hideaway in the centre of Melbourne City is a truly amazing place to stay for business, pleasure or both. Counter staff were especially courteous and went out of their way to ensure that our stay is both pleasant and enjoyable. My family and I (3 grown up girls) came to Melbourne for the MBA Graduation (both of my... More

Stay 1 night in May 2013. Decent sized, clean and modern looking room with free wi-fi. Courteous, polite and helpful front desk staff. Booked through hotels.com with yummy hot breakfast provided. Conveniently located, within walking distance to Southern Cross Station. However, need to walk a little to the nearest free City City Tram stop.

Just returned from four nights at the Alto. Excellent location, easy walking distance to everything in the main centre plus Docklands and South Bank. Very comfortable accommodation, we had a two bedroom / two bath with kitchenette (which didn't get used!). Beds were very comfortable, linen crisp and the room was very clean. Very quiet property as well given its... More

The Alto is a little gem of a hotel which is not only green but handy to public transport and within walking distance of everything in the CBD. I stayed 5 nights in a studio room while attending a conference. Having a kitchenette was handy and the room (and the rest of the hotel) was quiet, clean and comfortable. And... More

Loved the Alto on Bourke - super convenient location, walking distance to the Markets, Fed Square etc and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Free wifi a bonus for the teenagers! Wish we were there longer to try the massage room and go to the gym! Would definitely stay here again when visiting Melbourne!

We have just stayed three nights at The Alto having come to Melbourne to see a show. The hotel is in a convenient location, only a few minutes walk from Sothern Cross station. There is a tram stop just out front with a number of different routes. A wide selection of restaurants, food outlets, convenience stores, bars and supermarkets are... More

Hotel is very close to where the airport bus docks. Easy to walk round the city. The rooms are not cheap, and I was aware the called the room we booked a petite Queen, but tripping over the luggage rack at the end of the bed is just a little too small for me I'm afraid. Can't fault it otherwise,... More

True our Petite rooms are compact yet they have all you need including free WiFi which is thankfully becoming a little more common in Australian hotels yet many still charge $20+ per day. Our Studios offer more space or of course our 1 bedroom apartments offer separate lounge with galley style kitchen and lounge room. We like to think we... More

This would be the 6th time that I've stayed at the Alto & I keep coming back. The hotel is clean & comfortable & the location couldn't be better. A short walk from Skybus, the tram stop is just down the road & it's a couple of minutes walk to Southern Cross station. I stayed with my teenage daughter &... More

Very convenient hotel as it is near the Southern Cross Station. The tram is also a few meters away from the hotel. They've got very friendly and helpful staff as well. Rooms are clean and there's free wifi. Just don't stay on any of the four rooms facing Bourke Street. I couldn't relax because of the annoying noise from the... More

My husband took me to Melbourne for a couple of nights in March 2012. The Alto was recommended by the travel agent and we were extremely happy with the central location. Trams just out the front and we could walk to almost all CBD attractions. Staff were very friendly, and rooms were very clean. Great for weekend stay.
