There is a total lack of service provision in this hotel. On arrival we were not asked about our car and it was only going to the room I saw a note about parking available in a nearby multistory car park. I went to reception and they gave me the card to go in the car - but failed to... More

I have stayed at the The Ansonia on Lydiard many times for work. I have stayed in about 10 different rooms and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. The location is great for walking around Ballarat. All staff in the hotel are very friendly and helpful. I especially like the food, such as the scotch fillet and desserts, in... More

I have to disagree with rookie. A worthwhile attempt at saving a beautiful facade but it is hardly reflected beyond the street line. I belies its latest generation rebirth from commercial offices into a boutique hotel. Its a pity they did it on the cheap. The atrium needs some redesign to help get rid of the unwanted heat , The... We stayed here on the first night of a Victorian visit lasting a week : > very attentive and friendly on booking in and thereafter. > no assistance with bags up stairs but I had the sherpa with me so no issue. > allocated room number 4 which was TINY - more suitable to one guest eg not enough area... As far as heritage hotels with modern interiors go, this hotel is above average but not a patch on the Henry Jones Art Hotel in Hobart. We stayed for one night and found the room size acceptable. Electronics were above avverage. Nice stereo, which included a docking station for ipod/iphone. Closet is tiny with no full length hanging space unless... More

We came to Ballarat from the UK for a wedding and stayed at the Ansonia for four nights. We were warmly welcomed and given an upgrade on our original booking of a studio room, so felt we received excellent value for $149 a night with a large room in the atrium + complimentary buffet breakfast. We were particularly struck by... More

V central. Fabulous old building. Large.room with all necessities/extras. Contemporary decor. Road noise and venetian blinds (letting light in) not great if light sleeper. V helpful, friendly reception. Outdoor bar/restaurant area looked lovely but closed on our visit. Whilst our room was clean, communal areas could do with a blitz. More

An interesting place, not the best in the world but we'd definitely return if we were out this way again. The room was very comfortable, plenty of space with a nice bathroom. Ceilings are very high - it's almost like being in a cube! Filtered water in the fridge is a nice touch. Breakfast is ok - relatively small choice,... More

This place is a bit of a puzzler. The good: The place was very clean. My room was stylish & gorgeous, with high ceilings, plenty of tech amenities, soaker tub, fabulous toiletries, super up-scale bed. Interesting heritage building. The library had plenty of books, a free computer, a huge TV, free filtered water, and a nespresso machine to use at... More

My partner and I stayed at The Ansonia on 15 May. Room was quite nice, reception when we arrived was very pleasant. Funny place tho' not as grand and regal as it looks on the website. Felt more like what was once a boarding house but of course, it has been completely refurbished although a bit tired. That was fine... More
