Sunrise Lodge is a nice little backpackers. There are a maximum of 3 beds per dorm room and no bunks. The mattresses are thick and soft, very comfortable. There are two tables and a decent sized kitchen with 8 burners and a few toasters and kettles. There is a separate lounge room with a tv and 2 small couches. There... More

We were offered the studio room at the front of the building on the road, this was because we were travelling with our daughter, it was a huge room which was great but it cost a fair bit, not sure if it was a good price for the area but it was more than we paid in Hamner springs. There... More

We only stayed at one backpacker lodge during our holiday and I'm glad it was this one, I think we would have been spoiled for any others. Tim and his mum were very friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable and quiet. Special big up to Huki (sorry if wrongly spelled) who ran the coffee van next door -... More

This was our first night in NZ, having just flown in to Christchurch at 4.55am. We were all exhausted and after a couple of hours driving we ready for a sleep well before lunch, so we appreciated that the room was available for early check-in. The front room (dbl with ensuite) is right on the main road, but not too... More

This place backed onto the beach which was cool. We stayed in a self-contained lodge which was basic but had all the facilities we needed. We had our own kitchenette, 4 twin beds in one room and a good shower. The heating was alright as well. Very clean and spacious. The staff were also very helpful and friendly.

My boyfriend and I stayed in a self-contained unit at the back of the reception which was very private and had full kitchen facilities. The kitchen was so well equipped we decided not to eat out even on our only night in Kaikoura. The room was large with one double bed and one single bed, dining table with 4 chairs... More

All the rooms in the main block were booked when we went so we stayed 4 nights in the family cottage. It's basic, but has everything you need. It did get really cold at night, but it was Autumn, so not surprising. After cooking and having the little heater in the bedroom on it was cosy in the bedroom. The... More

We stayed in the self contained studio unit so can't comment on the backpackers section. It had everything we needed, the only two negative comments we would make is that there was not a decent frying pan in the unit, only 2 tiny ones which made it difficult to cook the fish we had bought, and the pillows were pretty... We stayed in the ensuite double, which was big and clean with a very comfy bed. The hostel is two minutes walk from the whale watching and 10mins from town centre. Transport is useful to get to dolphin encounter and the walk along the cliffs.

We had booked in to stay one night at Sunrise Lodge in Kaikoura but decided to stay on for another and were lucky and squeezed in. The first night we stayed in a double studio apartment which was bright, cheerful and well equipped. It had been designed with disabled facilities and had an area outside where you could sit and...
