Amongst the swarm of motels on the beach strip at esplanade in the Kaikoura peninsula, the best thing about the motel is the price.$110 for a double occupancy unit during the christmas season was a bargain. Units are old yet spacious. Interiors are cosmetically maintained with a bad insulation a probable turn off during cold nights. The kitchenette is spacious... More

Kaikoura has a gorgeous beach area and this motel is one of the many along the beach. \Spectacular to sit and watch the water - just don't stay in The Clearwater. It's so run down it isn't funny. We have been in motels across both islands for 4 weeks now and this was the worst by far. The shower was... More

We booked in for 2 nights at the beginning of Jan, 3 adults & 3 teenagers. We had a 2 bedroom, self contained unit right opposite the beach and made ourselves at home straight away. Terry & Bon, our wonderful hosts couldn't help us enough, they even moved another single bed into the unit so that only 1 had to... More

Uninterrupted views of the sea and the Kaikoura mountain range from a double waterfront unit. The unit itself was dated, but it is classic Kiwiana. (Think of a well-worn bach near a beach with a great view). It has the basics if you are staying on your way through the town - heater, electric blanket, microwave, fridge, small CRT TV.... More

My husband I travelled through out the South Island during our holiday and stayed at many motels during the months of January 2011. Our stay in Kaikoura was very enjoyable. There was much to do and see during our stay there. We stayed at the Clearwater Motels for 2 nights and we really did enjoy our stay at this motel.... More

If you are into a motels that have WiFi, 40+ channels of SkyTV, hottubs, then go stay there!!!... The Clearwater is like a favourite pair of jeans or shoes, that no matter how tatty they appear, you feel good in them, it is a classic 1950's bohemian feeling New Zealand motel... yeah sure, the garden needs a tidy up, and... Initially attracted to this Motel via www.ratestogo.com, based on location, price and a photo which turned out to be a little deceptive in the way it was cropped. On arriving at the Motel, our reaction was to continue driving and look for other options. This is an aged hodge podge of buildings masquerading as a motel complex. It is more... More

This is the worst motel I have ever stayed at and it is way overpriced. The rooms are old and shabby, the wallpaper is peeling off the walls, the couch was broken, the shower hardly worked at all. There was no milk provided in the fridge which is usually expected. We were charged a lot of money for what we... More

The pictures on the internet is not what the motel looks like, Its shabby, looks like crap and feels like your sleeping on a slab of concrete. The owners can hardly speak english which doesnt help either. We recommend not to go there, It ruins your whole holiday.
