We made our second visit here because we had enjoyed our first stay so much. We received a warm welcome from Ted and Debs who as on our previous visit had plenty of advice on things to do and places to eat. We highly recommend Sails motel to anyone visiting Kaikoura. More

Quietly tucked away with very helpful hosts, our first experience of a NZ motel and it did not disappoint. The room was well appointed and had everything we needed for our 2 night stay. Good recommendations of places to eat and things to see. Would certainly recommend More

We were given great advice by the owners Deb and Ted even before we confirmed our booking. Location is great, right on the esplanade but up a lane so no traffic noise. Reaslly comfortable and friendly. Advice and help from owners made our stay in Kaikura much more enjoyable. Good value and would recommend to all ages. More

We stayed for one night, and have to echo previous reviews...the rooms are a little basic (and maybe a little small in terms of space to put your bag), but the price reflects this, and they were clean and tidy. As others have said, Debbie is a great host and will go out of her way to make your stay... More

True the drive into the motel was narrow, but not a big deal. The rooms were spotless and in a very quiet setting! The location was great just a half block from the ocean. Deb and her husband were great helping us decide on where to go and what to do and where to eat. When we were ready to... More

We had the most wonderful time in Kaikoura thanks to Debbie and Ted. Ted picked us up from and to the train station, and Debbie's recommendation on where and what to do really made our time in Kaikoura really special - highly recommend the roadside BBQ, lavender farm and the dolphin swim. The warmth and generosity that we received from... More

I would agree with all the positive comments, just emphazising Debbie's helpfulness! That said (the main thing!), I think guests would appreciate a more streamlined booking process, using modern technology, as well as the availability of a WiFi net. Besides, the narrow driveway is an interesting challenge - where I would fear to meet a bigger car, forcing me to... More

The lovely hosts, Debbie and Ted, really made our stay in Kaikoura vey memorable indeed. The quiet location and great room provided the ideal place to get some rest pre- and post our wildlife-packed day of excursions. Debbie helped organise our wildlife trips (dolphin swim, seal colony walk and whale watch) to make sure we fitted in all 3 in... More

We stayed at Sails for 3 nights during our visit from the UK. The accommodation was first class, very clean and quiet, in an excellent location and the service was exceptional. We cannot thank Deb and Ted enough for their hospitality - above and beyond what you would expect. Sails Motel is an absolute must for anyone visiting Kaikoura. More

Have to agree with previous posts that the rooms are a bit tired. Bed was really uncomfortable and the tv was smaller than our computer screen. Deb is an excellent host, warm and helpful, and the grounds are very attractive. Though tired, the room was spotless. More
