Pen-y-bryn is an absolute delight from the moment you arrive! The lodge is stunningly beautiful, brimming with character and full of history. The hosts are attentive and charming and know just how to make their guests feel pampered and cared for without being overwhelming. Rooms are well appointed with attention to detail that only experienced hosts know how to provide.... More

On a trip through the lower South Island we stayed one night at this wonderful, historic mansion located just up the hill only minutes from the town centre. Warmly welcomed by our Hosts 'the Jameses', we were shown to our beautiful room which was filled with luxury touches such as the butlers tray with its choice of Harney teas, Lodge... More

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a lovely and detailed review, and thank you also for mentioning the Farmers' Market! We are avid supporters of the Oamaru Farmers' Market, and are glad that this very new market (barely a year old) has already garnered a lot of kudos from visitors from all over. We hope... More

We chose to stay here for a special anniversary and it was wonderful - would definitely return. Sadly we visited when the owners were away, but they organised a wonderful alternative host for us. We had organised a dinner at Riverstone - (about 20 minutes north by car) - and our lovely host drove us there and picked us up... More

On a remarkable April afternoon we received a warm welcome to Pen-Y-Bryn Lodge by our hosts, James and James. After an interesting tour and history of this historic home we were shown to our magnificient room. Everything was top quality from the tea-tray to the cozy bedding. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice review! We're very glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and are thrilled that you were here for the beautiful autumn colours that so many guests miss by coming in summer. We were very happy to be able to help make your birthday celebration a little bit more special, and kudos to your sons for giving you such a lovely gift! We see a lot of guests who come with Lodges of New Zealand vouchers, many of whom are celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, or honeymoons, and we like to think that Pen-y-bryn... More

What a gem of a location, this historic lodge is in great condition and has so much history. Built in the 19th century it is modeled in the Tudor style and with its English Oak paneling and high ceilings with decorative plaster work really does take me back to English Tudor great houses. James and James are perfect hosts and... More

We loved Pen y bryn and our fantastic hosts James & James. They were warm, welcoming and have a uniquely beautiful home and gardens. We had appetizers and a wonderful dinner which James the owner and chef prepared. I wish we could have stayed more then one night as the Moeraki/Oamaru area has great wildlife and plenty to do. More

I am currently residing in the Pen-y-Bryn hotel in Oamaru and would highly recommend it. The cuisine is exquisite and the owners/hosts are very attentive and put themselves out to ensure that  all guests have a relaxing and joy able experience. I cannot speak too highly of this establishment. This is a must for your itinerary. Ray Seymour More

Our wedding day was perfect at the lodge, the weather was brilliant, the gardens were immaculate and the service was superb. Guests believed that the day at Penn-y-Bryn was one of the best ceremony's they had been involved in and the service from both the Jame's and there staff was next to none. We are so glad that you two enjoyed having your beautiful ceremony at Pen-y-bryn! While we cannot claim credit for arranging the stunning weather that we had that day, we do take pride in providing our guests with the best possible service, and in the breakfast that we serve! We hope that you will come visit us again sometime soon! More
