Great staff, great location (centre of town- easy to find from the bus stop), interesting (i.e. historic) building. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone staying in Oamaru.

Very clean simple double room right in the centre of town with friendly staff at the right price.
The communal areas are plentiful and very cosy with toasty fires to warm you up after an evening penguin spotting just round the corner. The kitchens were both good sized and well equipped and the supermarket was only a 5 minute walk...

This hostel does not live up to expectations from the start. It is dark and dingy and not at all modern as is advertised!
The rooms are Clostraphobic and smelly and the living area feels a bit like a rest home. After travelling the whole of New Zealand and paying around the same price in other hostels, this one felt...

This guest was fine with her stay until check out time. She refused to vacate the room or the property. It was well after check out time and she had been advised on her guest registration card, in room guest guide and postings around the facility of the check out time. She WOULD NOT LEAVE!!! The guest was offered the...

This is not the best hostel that I've stayed at, but it is pretty good. The rooms are big and the kitchen is very clean. The location of the place got me to stay there as it is located write in the center of town and it's pretty close to the public library so you can get your free wifi...

Small, a bit scruffy, rough around the edges and felt like it was still in 1860-odd-whenever it says it was opened on the sign outside. These are plus points, as it is in the old victorian town and felt really authentic, like you could breathe the history of travellers from a bygone era. I was secretly hoping for a couple...

We stayed in a double room for NZD70/night in summer. The room was extremely cosy despite being so small it could only accommodate the bed. One of the cosiest hostel rooms I'd every stayed in before. Bathroom is shared but clean. Gets a little busy though with just 2 toilet and 2 shower cubicles shared amongst the entire level. Shared...

We showed up late after the office had closed but it wasn't a problem. Gave us private rooms for the price of dorms on account of the bad weather that forced is off the road. Great place and excellent staff. Awesome fire place!

Very well located, right in the city center. Very nice and cosy common places. Free WIFI and computers.
Our room, a double one, was clean but it was extremely small, without even a table.
I would go there again.

Fantastic backpackers run by the delightful Maureen and Tigger the cat. Great central location, 2 well-equipped kitchens, cosy sitting room with a log fire, free wifi and if you're lucky you might even see some blue penguins nesting in the garage out the back!
