I love everything about the Promenade Hotel, except one minor quibble which diminished our experience not a whit. The warm, efficient and friendly greeting could have been at most any well-run establishment, but in this case, it was our welcome into a truly special hotel – a visual feast, a supremely comfortable room, and a sensational breakfast. An attractive converted canal-side warehouse with wooden floors and visible beams in many rooms, Promenade’s style is unique and playful, charming and comfortable. Eclectic paintings hang throughout; modern, abstract, representational genre paintings of the 19th century port in action, and early 20th century street scenes. 19th and early 20th century photographs of the town line the hallways and convey a real sense of history and place. Cute, faint, period paintings of the skyline and residents decorate the ceilings in some rooms as well. The perfect blend of music through the public spaces creates a low key, but enlivened ambience -- varied, mostly contemporary, and at just the right volume. Present, but not intrusive. We upgraded our room for a small nightly fee to a junior suite with sauna when our first room did not have the requested canal view. Everything about the room was just right, with the one quibble as the exception. Lovely view, fine shower with very good water pressure, perfectly placed light controls, strong WiFi, firm and delightful bed, and the playful ceiling illustrations mentioned above; just a great room and with a sauna too! And the quibble? They didn’t have plugs for our electronics by the bed. No matter. We loved the room and the whole hotel. Breakfast was a real treat too and well worth it because the eggs, fish, breads, yoghurts, juices, cereals, meats, cheeses and more kept us fully satisfied until dinner. The hotel’s attractive Restaurant Piano serves well-prepared Latvian and European cuisine in the evening as well. Located across from Liepaja’s modern concert hall and an easy walking distance to the city center, parks and beach, it provides a perfect base for your visit. I don’t know when we will return to Liepaja, but when we do, we will certainly stay at the Promenade once more.…
