We have found K&G hotel through tripadvisor and were not disappointed at all. In short - We spent three night at K&G. The place is an old manor house in the center of Riga, some 15 minutes walk from the old city. The building is well preserved, the room was spacious and comfortable, quiet despite facing two busy streets. The breakfast was ample and tasty. The staff apart from Latvian, speaks fluent English and Russian, we have also heard German spoken freely to other guests. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Would definitely stay there next time in Riga. In details - The location The place is in the middle of the city center, in the neighbourhood from the 19th century, with plenty of buildings in art nouveau style. Krisjana Barona street has a tram running from (and to) the old city, 3-4 stops, some 10 minutes. Gertrudes street is also an old street with electric trolleys traffic to various parts of the city. The hotel is easily accessible from the airport, we traveled by bus number 22 to Stockmann centrs stop, and thence trams 6 and 11 (?), to Gertrudes iela stop. The hotel is on the corner diagonally from the tram stop. At least two groceries shops nearby, and vast variety of restaurants and cafés (we would especially recommend one restaurant some half block to the left from the hotel - "čemodāns" ("suitcase")). The place is of about 15-20 minutes leisurous walk from the city center, with much to see on the way whatever route you choose. The hotel building and the room The building is an old wooden manor house, kept in good shape. The staircase is somewhat steep, but nothing else to expect from a historical building. The sound isolation in our room was near to perfect, unlike other travellers' experiences. Indeed the building shakes every once in a while when an especially heavy tram gets into resonance with the walls, perhaps, but it is by no means disturbing. Anyway, it never happened at nights. The room we stayed was very spacious and homely furnished, with nice curtains on three windows, and old style wooden furniture. However, the furniture was very strong and sturdy, and the chairs, the arm chair, let alone the bed, were very comfortable. The en-suite facilities shined with spotless cleanliness every time we returned to the room. The bath tub was inviting with its appearance. The beds were comfortable and cosy, both ours and the child's. The quality of sleep was good, even though we slept with our curtains open. The noise can be heard from the streets, especially when a tram was passing, but somehow it was not intrusive, and believe me - I am very sensitive to noise. Perhaps we had a good luck, or it is just that the house absorbs the noise - I do not venture guessing. The breakfast The breakfast was simple but ample - two types of cereals, a homemade omelette (yes, right while you sit there!) with fried beacon, bread, toasts, butter, cheese and coffee or tea, all served with a cordial smile to the tables at the breakfast room. It kept us well to the dinner downtown, or even to the supper at "čemodāns". The staff The staff is very friendly and helpful. They speak a variety of languages, and probably even more that we heard. They advised us of where to go, what to see, where to eat and where to buy groceries if we wanted to. Any question was answered with warmth and friendliness. They are generally present in the morning and in the afternoon, as the set of keys that was provided included the key to the main entrance (which a sign requested to keep locked after 9 pm), but it is not impossible that there was also somebody in the evening - we didn't peek into the office at evenings. To summarize - A very nice homely hotel with best value for money.…
