My wife and I had a one night stay here and would stay again. We got a very good night's sleep and found the room to be very clean and filled with light. The breakfast was very good and prompt which was important because we needed to catch our minivan to the next part of our trip. There is a... More

This place and the owner helped make the rest of our trip in Guatemala. We had not bought tickets ahead of time to go from Panajachel to Tikal and she was friendly and very helpful in calling a travel agent to get us bus tickets to Guatemala city and roundtrip bus tickets to Tikal. I would definitely recommend this place... More

We were right on Lake Atitlan for two previous nights, but we had to transfer to this hotel the third night. The courtyard was lovely. We stayed in the room pictured above. The fresh water in a pitcher was nice (no plastic bottles!) and the overhead lighting was the best I've ever encountered in any hotel! We found the room... More

This place was ok. The room was small but what I expected. Breakfast was fine (but don't expect to go anywhere before 50 minutes after you walk into the breakfast room). The main problem was that the English speaking staff was quite unfriendly and uninterested in being helpful. It was almost like the manager was irritated by our presence. The... More

The family in question had two rooms with a living room in between, and in one room 4 persons stayed and in the other room 1 person. The ones who chose to stay 4 in one room probably felt it was too small for all of them. Since the family members came in to the dining room one by one... More

we arrived here when it was already dark and just expected something different. the rooms are not so nice, neither is the bathroom, but breakfast was fine. we stayed only one night, i would have not liked to stay there any longer. it just does not feel very homey or comfortable. the staff was friendly. The place looks like a junkyard from the street. Once inside, it is a little more green. The rooms are shocking dirty, poorly appointed and maintained. At around 9 pm diesel fumes started filling our room from some unknown source. The bathroom is definitely flip-flops only. I am in bed trying to sleep but the fumes are stinging my eyes... More

The guest in question stayed one night in our hotel and was asked how everything was and he said everything was ok. He and his wife even stayed for breakfast. I think he mus have mistaken the hotel with another because he stayed in a room , way in the back, about 100mts off the street and there is absolutely... More

We returned once again to this gem of a hotel. Fourteen of us stayed for one night, soaking up the beautiful garden, outdoor seating areas, attractive rooms, good continental breakfast, and enjoying the friendly staff. Since my previous visit, they have enclosed the breakfast area - good for rainy days - but before it was nice before to sit outside... More

Our group had 2 rooms with beds for 5 adults. The linens and the hot showers felt wonderful! Located a few blocks from the lake, it was a perfect quiet get-away spot. Two large German Shepherds greet you.....large but friendly. Continental breakfast was adequate with endless coffee included. Only stayed one night but wish we could have stayed longer. Free... More

I stayed in Hotel Utz Jay for 5 days over Christmas 2011 and was traveling on my own. I don't speak Spanish and wanted to have a safe, friendly, clean base in which to stay while I visited the villages around the lake. I first learned about Utz Jay from my Lonely Planet guidebook. Before I stayed here, I read... More

Booked this so I had somewhere to stay having come in from a long bus ride. They offered me a v good deal for a longer stay but I ended up there for one night only. It's a nice place but quiet and down a dark road (I needed to use my torch to find my room and get the... More
