Hotel El-Djazair is an old hotel with french colonial style mixed with local arabian decor. The hotel is conveniently located in Algiers, close to downtown, but we need go by taxi. My comments are: PROS 1. Good location 2. Excellent food at algerian restaurant 3. Very good breakfast 4. Spacious rooms. I didn;t experience noise as other travellers commented. My... More

I you like old style hotels (turn of the 20th century) this is the only choice in Algiers. The building is grandiose, the view superb (if you get the right room). Actually there are several buildings, all with different orientations. So you might face the pool at its level (not a good prospect on summer sundays as anybody can come... More

My husband and i stayed here for 1 week. Fantastic looking hotel with lovely gardens but thats about it. I think if i were alone then the service would have been terrible but as my husband is Algerian they seemed to respond more to him. We have recently stayed in a much better place for a quarter of the money... More

've stayed at some pretty low-end hotels but this one takes the prize. Where shall I begin. Well, let's start at check in where they didn't speak more than two words of English and assured me that I would enjoy Wi-Fi in my room and that I would be assigned a quiet room. I discovered shortly after check-in that none... More

I stayed at this hotel in March 2012 - it was obviously quite an impressive building in its day but is today rather tired. The room I stayed in was clean and basic - the safe did not work and I was provided with only 2 hangers! The hotel staff were a tad off-hand - not too many smiles from... More

What a magnificent building this hotel is. Colonial French design combines with Arab decor to create unsurpassed potential. Such a pity, then, that its service and overall management are so poor. The hotel is government-owned and managed, which presumably explains the lack of maintenance and general service fatigue. As other reviews have said, the rooms urgently need upgrading and refurbishment.... More

Without a doubt this is the best hotel in Algiers, unless you prefer the Hilton isolation or the Aurassi's socialist architecture. El-Djazair (formerly St George) has stunning architecture, magnificent old-style internal design, good location, excellent security if you're concerned with that. The restaurants offer excellent quality food, although pricy. The pool is accessible both in winter (it's covered) and summer... More

The most safe hotel that I ever have been. Very tipical and nice decoration. Despite of the local culture, the staff is not so warmly but the are efficient. Very confortable and has a delicious breakfast. More

I stayed in El Djazair hotel for a 6-day business trip. One of the main problems I faced was the unstable internet connection. The hotel is quite old and they employ data connections over power lines, dedicating a WiFi access point for each 2 or 3 rooms. Each occupant receives a username and password to access the nearest access point.... More
