My girlfriend and I recently spent 4 nights at Baan Sabai and had a wonderful stay. We initially booked a jacuzzi suite (which price-wise is in between standard rooms and the spa villa we assume) and upon arrival realized that it was on the ground floor and had no balcony or patio. We asked the staff from the lobby if we could change into another room and were instantly offered a much larger standard room on the second floor. We thought it was even better than the jacuzzi suite, since it had a balcony, seemed larger and had a huge outdoor bathroom. On the second day - which happened to be the coldest day we've ever experienced in Thailand - we came home from a day trip and were immensly excited to take a hot shower, but unfortunately there was no hot water. To make a long story short, we moved into another room (again) and this time into the spa villa, which was also amazing. After literally putting the staffs patience with us to a test, we can genuinly say, these people working at the reception are not only incredibly kind and helpful, they are also professional and clearly make their guests interest their number one priority. This was evident throughout our stay, starting from friendly greeting staff (from cleaning personell to assistant manager to gardener to waitresses...) to helping us to plan our stay and organize trips (at the same rates we were offered through other comanies, and we did a fair amount of research). Everyone seemed very well trained and educated on their field of occupation. Something you won't see too frequently in hotels of this price class in South East Asia. The rooms were, as said, impeccable. The architecture and attention to detail in the room designs are veracious testimony for the same exquisite taste you'll find in the dining hall and lobby. Everything anyone could possibly need during their stay is already in the room (including mosquito repellent and a flash light), and towels and sheets are stainless and fresh. The restaurant is fantastic. Even if you're not a health guru or smoothie junkie, you will appreciate freshly made juices, organic produce (we think) and excellent home cooked meals. The distance to the city can take up some extra time in the taxi or tuk tuk but is absolutely managable. One thing that could be improved however is the inevitable crowing of a rooster all day, every day. All in all, Baan sabai is a great address when in Chiang Mai. We felt welcome the second we walked into the lobby until we were brought to a taxi and given two jars of their delicious home made jam. Dear Hotel Baan Sabai, thank you for everything and we will surely be back soon.

A little out of the heart of Chiang Mai, but with Tuk Tuk's being so inexpensive, it isn't a problem at all. We started with a small issue about the room, but that was very quickly resolved and they were only too happy to accommodate our requirements which was that we were a family not just a couple. The place is fantastic and is very quaint with very natural surroundings. Take the aeorguard as there are definitely mosquitos etc.. around, but that's not the fault of the hotel's, it's just the way it is.

We had stayed here for 4 night. Great place but far from the city but no worries free shuttle service to the night market every 6pm. Room is so romantic and very peacefull with the lovely view from the swimming pool area and graden landscape. Lots of mosquitos but with the anti mosquito spray its was enough. Unique bathroom open air strange but cute, you can take a bath and seen the stars upbove. Food at the restaurant was great execpt western food, dont try the steak to small and over cooked plus fries where cold already. Apitizers come with the main meal which was strange. Breakfast was great lots of choices. Swimming area was nice and peacefull. Great staff with always there when you need them. Fresh fruits and water everyday. Price was high but worth it.

Baan Sabai was lovely from start to finish. The resort has several small accommodation buildings that are surrounded by tropical foliage and covered walkways. The rooms each have a peaceful view of the foliage, pond or pool and are surrounded by glass (though have curtains for privacy. The rooms are furnished with beautiful Thai wooden furniture and the private outdoor bathrooms are a real treat. The beds are huge and romantic with netting over the top. The whole resort and reception in particular is designed with beautiful dark wood finishings and has welcoming and helpful English speaking staff. The menu in the restaurant is creative, authentic and very healthy complete with a large selection of teas. Breakfast and dinner are worth having here. Finally, the spa treatments are very relaxing and professional with boutique products. Massages can be done inside or on a private outdoor pavillon near the pond. Its worth noting that the boutique is about 15 minutes by cab away from the centre of Chiang Mai. All in all, a really lovely stay which was everything we hoped!

Avoid the Baan sa-bai hotel recommended in the lonely planet if at all possible or bring your own blanket, because you'll need it. This place gets very cold at night and the air con doesn't heat the room at all. I woke up freezing in the middle of the night, sleeping fully clothed and with the sheets doubled over. The room is otherwise a very good size, spartan in decor - not one picture on the wall - clinical looking inside and out, as described in the lonely planet, but spotless with TV, refrigerator and immaculate ensuite shower room. The price for the night was 700 baht, which is expensive for this part of the world where similar rooms can go for 300 or 400 bahts, including breakfast. And, after agreeing to accept the room I was told that this price didnt include breakfast! There is an excellent review on this site for "Mon and Kurt's restaurant and guest house" in "Chiang Dau", not far from here, and if I'd have read that first, I would have planned to stop there instead; 190 bahts per night, very clean, air con, ensuite, internet, and. unlike this place, warm and friendly to boot, and breakfast included! What this hotel can't be held responsible for, though, is the loud blaring chinese music coming from the street speakers in Fang at exactly 7.30am! Followed by a long announcement from the local street DJ! Unbelievable!!! Have a great trip!
