I had heard excellent reviews of the Banana house, so was very disappointed with what I experienced here. Maybe it was because it was off season (we were here in May 2013), but still felt that for the price we paid, we did not get value, especially after scoping out other houses in Lamu and Shela and finding much more... Dear Guest, we do appreciate if guests write a review about our house as we do value opinions and we learn from it. We would like to comment on your experiences at Banana House as we feel it is not correct what you stated. The boat trip to Lamu by night is double the price as a day trip, we... More

Banana House reflects the unique charme of Shela. A beautiful swahili house set in gorgeous garden. We know the owners, Banana and Monika, since more than a decade and enjoy every year the time we spend with them. The staff hasn't changed since Banana house was opened and this says a lot about the quality of the people as well... More

We have just returned from our trip to Kenya, visiting family, and having a 4 night stay in Lamu to complete our holiday. From the moment we stepped through the door into the Banana House we felt at home. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. We got lost on our first trip out and... More

A nice property, simple / spacious rooms, friendly junior staff and a basic breakfast of fruit, toast, eggs and tea. Location is average – even though the beach is advertised as approx. 2-5 minutes away, this isn’t a great beach to walk on / swim in, and I usually walked to Peponi hotel and beyond (approx. 10-15 minutes) where the... Dear Guest, It is very sorry to read your experience at Banana House. May I inform you that we dont advertise that the beach is 2 minutes away, we are away from the seafront indeed for 2 minutes, but the swimming beach is 6-8 minutes walk along the waterfront towards Peponi. While myself I was not around I have asked... More

This is a beautiful Swahili house, recently renovated, with lots of charm and magic ambiance. It is not luxurious but is comfortable enough and perfectly in line with the relaxed and laid-back atmosphere of the island, with many common spaces and terraces to dine al fresco. It has a small pool and garden to cool down, an amazing cook, and... More

Must have been Xmas 2000 and we still look back with fond memories. Bananahouse is a wonderful lamu styl place. great ambiance, great service, good cooks and lovely little pool to cool off. Very nice place and one has a piece of mind once you come to Lamu and Banana House. Rooms are basic and bathrooms are basic also, (they give a 10gm bar of soap her day) so do not expect 4 star or 5 star Lodge or resort. Great service and people at the House. The only drawback is the breakfast... More

We would go back in a blink if we could. The Banana House is the perfect place to relax and enjoy Lamu to the fullest.
