I stayed in Montevideo for about 3 days at Che Lagarto Hostel. Location: Pretty good. It is located right next to the Plaza de Independencia and you can easily get to the hostel from the Tres Cruces Bus Terminal. Rooms: Alright. The rooms can get a little cold because the rooms are big and the heating system isn't that great.... More

I was really disappointed. It's very big and there is little atmosphere, they put really loud music and it makes it impossible to communicate with people. Shower is bad and there's need anything left for breakfast and they're too lazy to refill. Also, pay with American dollars or they'll just rip you off, they have their "own" change rate!!! I... More

It's not a bad hostel, but not great either. It's located on the edge of the old town, so walkable to everywhere. Breakfast is decent. Dorms are okay. But wherever you are you'll hear the noise from the hostel bar until around 1am every night. There's better places to stay in MVD, but this does the job.

It was a new experience for us....but anyhow, the people where very nice, the old house is charming and the location is spectacular....no complaints regarding the hostel..... First we thought that it was mosquitos....but we never saw any and it was pretty cool at night, then we found the bedbugs, they were in the mattress and since we knew it... More

I´ve travelled a little and always try to stay at Hostels in order to meet new people. Normally I don´t care a lot to the accommodations of the place, as long people that work there and the house guests are nice. And I can tell that Che Lagarto it is one of the best places I´ve been when putting it... More

For its fabulous location and manor-house feel, this hostel is ruined by inconsiderate staff and the too-basic, sweltering rooms. We stayed in a dorm room next to the dining area/reception and could not get to sleep before at least 2am. Loud dance music was playing until the early hours, and we assumed people were partying. However, after hours of lying... More

To be brief, It's cheap and It's located near everything. It cost me around 14 dollars per night. I share a room without windows. The place is cool if you are conscius that your having a low-cost travel. Breakfast is bad. Bathroom was old and it lacks of maintenance. Beer and food is expensive. The staff is kind and helpful.... The place was freezing cold. Warmer outside (no joke). Asked for a heater and were told no. Not even another blanket. The bed was old and noisy. Just to turn over in the night sounded like the whole thing was going to collapse. The bathroom was old and poorly maintained. Almost zero water pressure from the shower. Roof was leaking... More

It is egrettable, the prce for doble room is almost the same price of a simple hotel. We just got happy in Uruguay and we changed the hotel. there are many cheap... More
