Old coverted building with a very old school life, the rooms are large (we had a split level room, with bedroom/bathroom upstairs and large lounge/balcony downstairs). Close to Plaza Independence this is a good location in an area of Montevideo that has plenty of character. The lift dates back to 1913 and the rooms have 4-5 metre ceilings. The hotel is in an older historical building that was an exceptional value for the price we paid. Its location was excellent in that it was near shopping and within walking distance of the Mercado Del Puerto which housed several good restaurants. The hotel is right next to a string of bars/restaurants - perfect if you want to stay out and eat or party. That might be an issue for people trying to sleep, but we were out late and from New York City, so it didn't bother us at all. It's also around the corner from 2 of the main plazas.... More
