Plaza Fuerte is a small hotel next to the old town. The rooms are modernized, but have some strange features, as the bed on the higher level of the room. But altogether a nice experience. More

My first room (#401) appeared to have been the center of the social scene for parties, smoking and whatever else might occur at a party. The room smelled of smoke, the carpet was stained and the couch in the living room was not at all welcoming. I attempted to stay in room and endure the after effects of who knows... More

Excellent location with many nearby restaurants and bars (safe to walk to at night). Beautiful interior and exterior but the carpets in the room were stained in multiple places and did not seemed to be vaccuumed, ever. Take a three block walk to the riverfront and make your way to the beach, about a 30 minute walk. Overall, would stay... More

It is very centrally located in a nice building, however some of the furniture, railings, carpets are worn out and are in stark contrast with the historic building. It is not cheap either. However the staff are very helpful and friendly, ready to help More

it all depends: Do not go to the hotel, if: - you can not walk stairs, - need a spa or fitness center, or - do not like anything built before 2005, and - mind walking down some narrow stairs if you want to open or close the window in the middle of the night or change the air-condition/heater settings.... Great bedrooms! with a lot of space. Balcony. Comfy bed. Great bathroom. Nice lcd TV. Internet connection a little slower but it was OK. Awesome breakfast (cakes, facturas, bread, bacon, eggs, lots of kinds of fruits.) Great view. Perfect location on ciudad vieja (near plaza independencia). Be careful at night cause of the people! move in cabs. During the day... More

I booked one night on November 8ht relying on the ranking and reviews. Arrived at the front desk and I was told that I didn't have a room because they overbooked! They had my cell number and email and didn't even bother to let me know in advance. As a traveller I reward good service. Plaza Fuerte lacks a lot... More

This hotel is charming. Built in 1912, it has a magnificent interior complete with old ballroom. The rooms are very contemporary. Carpets were stained and I wish they would just remove them but it does make things quieter. We stayed in 2 different rooms The first was a 2 story room which was so spacious. but after many days of... More

We rolled into Montevideo with no idea of where we would stay. Luckily, Hotel Plaza Fuerte was visible, with a room available.... It was an absolutely pleasant surprise! Exhibits the regal, antique charm of Montevideo. With exquisite detail from the tiles, to the iron elevator, to the high ceilings.... The room was beautiful, with modern furnishings. Bathroom well stocked, and... More

What the other reviewers say is true: clean rooms, friendly staff, great downtown location with reasonable rates. But what the staff hides is that there is a disco directly across the street that pumps extremely loud music into the street! Additionally, the patrons of this bar spill out into the street and scream, dance, yell, sing at high decibels until... More

Dear David: Yes, you are right about the disco located beside the hotel. Our staff cannot offer you another room because we were full those nights, but other guests has written reviews about the noise during the weekends. Our company has met with the authorities (Ministry of Tourism and Town Hall) about this problem, due to that disco has not... More
