Not recommended. The Dar Halabia in Aleppo’s Old City is listed by Lonely Planet and is marked "our pick". It would seem that since getting that designation, the hotel sees no reason to make any further effort; very disappointing. If one word had to describe Dar Halabia it would be "shabby" and we are not overly picky. Prior to booking... More

Not recommending travel to Syria now ('11) but if you do travel to Aleppo try Dar Halabia. Our room had beautiful stone work, thick camel blankets, lovely carpets and a nice bathroom that worked just fine. It was on the upper balcony where you could relax day and night and where a very delicious traditional breakfast was served. The staff... More

I found this place by accident when I was walking through the souks of Aleppo. Feeling tired I wanted to rest there for a while and it occurred to be a really good choice. When I entered Dar Halabia, it amazed me. It was the most beautiful hotel I have ever seen in Syria: an old traditional Arabic house with... More

The hotel looks charming enough on the outside but the rooms are rather scruffy. We arrived with a booking but were offered a room with windows so small - they were literally holes in the wall. We spoke to the manager and got a better room. Still, the bathroom was not very clean, and the shower was a trickle of... More

Its location is good, right at the heart of a souq, decoration very traditional, I liked it. My room was small and rather dark, facing to the inner yard but the walls were covered with beautifull carpets, furniture was original old, the bathroom was a bit scraffy but I had hot water and the bed was comfortable. If ever to... More

It was our daughter who was molested here. Until management get rid of this staff member I would seriously urge families not to stay here - this is not a safe place for children. More

Dar Halabia is situated in a charming corner of the picturesque old city, and it is this location which is its main draw (and driver of price). Another pro: the breakfast was very tasty and served on an airy terrace. But otherwise, it is an average budget hotel and quite expensive for what you get. My room was only okay:... More

Dar Halabia is situated in a renovated town house just inside the walls of the old town and close to the famous souk of Aleppo. It was probably charming 10 years ago, but now it suffers from neglect and bad cleaning. Dusty floors and dirty carpets, shower heads giving three thin sprouts of boiling hot water from both taps, shower... More

We stayed 4 nights. Location in souk was great and very quiet. Room was OK and breakfast quite good. Biggest irritation was the staff constantly smoking at the entrance to the courtyard......right in front of the no smoking signs. In general staff were less helpful than we found at other hotels in Syria. We never saw anyone who appeared to... More

We stayed 3 nights while exploring Aleppo and surroundings. We had trouble finding hotels that were not fully booked in April, despite emailing several weeks in advance, so Dar Halabia was not our first choice, though it turned out to be acceptable. Our downstairs room opened onto the courtyard, but there was no disturbance after about 10.00 pm. The courtyard... More
