the venerable old cathay hotel in lautoka is dying (possibly to be rebuilt as a small chain hotel).this is sad news for past budget/upmarket backpackers revisiting this fijian indian sugar town which is also departure point for 12 hour boat crossing to savusavu..there is no longer a restaurant on premises and even the "renovated" rooms are poor standard with rattlery...
