We had just one night in the Semiramis Palmyra and thought it was pretty good although there are a couple of caveats. The restaurant we ate in which was reached by crossing a cavernous and unused ballroom had rather dated looking pink walls and the swimming pool is still evidently under construction. In our room there was some electrical cabling with wires taped together running across the bed under the headboard which looked less than convincing. Having said all that though I have marked the hotel as very good because the room was clean, comfortable and a very good size, service was friendly and the buffet breakfast and dinners were excellent. It's a reasonable choice I think for a night not too far from the fabulous ruins.

The hotel is about 6 years old, however some parts are recently built. As others have noted hotel options in Palmyra are limited. In general the hotel looks nice, and it is obvious a lot of money has been spent on it. The common areas are spacious with lots of seating and there's a large bar on the second floor. We stayed for one night and had a suite. The suite was spacious, with a comfortable king size bed, the AC worked, the TV offered access to lots of channels (but we needed staff to show us how to operate it). Our travel companion had a regular size room, which was ok in general (though somewhat dusty - but then it is the desert). The problem was the bathrooms. The floors where very dirty, and the outside of the toilet bowls had not been wiped for a long time. We arrived after 10:00 pm and did not figure this out until about midnight. In the morning I informed the front desk about the cleanliness issue and someone who appeared to be a manager came to look at the bathroom as we were leaving. He was embarrassed and hopefully he will do something about it. My rating would be higher if the bathrooms were appropriately cleaned.

Hotel when I stayed was not yet finished. Hotel pool was empty as they had royal guests from Qatar staying who don't follow pool rules, easier to have it empty, but not for the other paying guests. This is mean't to be 5 star however at breakfast we were made to fell very unimportant, all service was directed at the comfort of Qataris, we were left to fend for ourselves, not even a cup of coffee was brought or offered to be brought to our table. We were lucky when we arrived our rooms were ready however a bus load of French tourists arrived at 4pm with none of their rooms ready, they were still waiting at 7pm. Restaurant in hotel but not open for dinner either night we were there.

We spent two very enjoyable nights at this well appointed hotel. The rooms were clean and the food very good. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful - in particular, Ali, the General Manager, who seemed to be always on hand to sort out any little problems and encouraging his staff to achieve the highest standards. We felt very much at home at this hotel

Before I arrived to the hotel I did not know what to expect of the hotel especially as my previous experience in hotels in Syria were, at best, average. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. Upon arrival, the staff were very welcoming and helpful, the design of the hotel was particularly impressive, despite possessing all the modern amenities of a 5 star hotel it has some lovely touches to remind you that you are in a historically significant city, it certainly distinguishes the hotel from any other that I have frequented. The rooms were comfortably equipped with all the expected facilities with some delightful touches. During both evenings we decided to eat at the hotel restaurant. I was initially skeptical however the food was excellent, it was certainly one of the best meal we had in Syria. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel, if there were any minor criticism I would say that the service could have been a little better, however, the staff were always willing and helpful.

Hotel is out of town but this is not a problem. Rooms are spacious, quiet and well appointed. Staff generally friendly and helpful, occasional staff member needs to remember that a welcoming smile is always a good start. Some of porters needed to scrub up their appearance. Dinner in dining room was fixed menu on night we ate and food was well presented, tasty and good value. Waiting staff were friendly and attentive. Free wireless Internet but not in rooms only in lobby. No iron in room. Overall this is a very pleasant hotel to stay at albeit one with minor issues to resolve by the Manager mainly relating to the occasional staff member

This hotel is also known as the Tadmora. Yes it is a little out of town and only for those with their own transport--but taxis are available. I decided to splurge after 2 weeks of travelling through Syria. I wanted peace and quiet. I wanted a pool that was open in March, I wanted comfort, somewhere to just chill out. The Tadmora filled this bill to the hilt! I was upgraded to a suite which of course was nice. Superb views of the ruins, if distant. I slept with the shutters open so that I could see the ruins lit at night. The neutral colours throughout compliment the monochrome of the desert and are verr restful to the eye. The bathroom was huge with a very big semi-circular shower. I found the service superb and the quality of food in the restaurant and the sevice there excellent! Although the Turkish bath is not yet finished and up and working yet, that should be lovely. The inside pool is a good size and I supose the charm was the tranquility and joy at having my own private pool with columns all around. There was also an outdoor pool. Sitting on the terrace after breakfast was also peaceful. Syria is new to luxury tourism and maybe this hotel isn't everyone's idea of 5 stars, and maybe they can't compete with the 4 Seasons in Damascus, but it is uniquely Syrian and has a charm of its own.

I booked this hotel after our first choices were fully booked. Whilst it is acceptable as a place to stay for one night it is a sterile 3 star at best hotel that lacks any get-away type areas and has zero charm. It is also quite a way from the city centre - I tried to locate it before we booked by the hotels website was quite useless. The rooms are average and the quality of finish poor - our room overlooked the hotel extension. We had dinner at the hotel which was very very average. Would try other places first but as a fall back option for one night it is acceptable.

the hotel looks nice: furniture, the dining rooms, the newly built rooms... you see that they invested a huge of money there and the things look quite qualitative... but....how the hotel managed is a different question.. the bell boy was not nice, tired out the bag from my hands and was nervously taking it and the one of my husband to our room. and he did not care at all, that he made scratches, appeared to be a rude attitude. totally our room looked nice with a view into the dessert. but: the room was totally in dust! furniture was covered with it, it was everywhere, in the bathroom, in water, in our bed! the sheets were covered in dust, so you just sit down on them and you see the dust as if you shake out the rug! but more of that: I found the toilet was leaking and the floor was wet and the whole bathroom so stinky!! no.. do not go there. the food there was not impressive, eatable but seemed not to be so fresh. the hotel has definitely no value for the money you pay.
