If you want to visit Matsumoto, this a good place to stay. It is a high rise hotel with an attached excellant restaurant. My single room was rather small but then hotel rooms are generally small in Japan. The room was clean with generally good amenities. The hotel is just 15mins walking distance from the railway station and very close... More

This hotel is only a 5 minutes' walk from the famous Matsumoto Castle, which is rated one of the "Best of Japan" places for cherry blossom viewing. The staff are polite and helpful and informed us of the night light-up at the castle ground in celebration of the cherry blossom. When we were leaving for dinner, it started to rain... More

Stayed at the hotel , on a group tour. Hotel very comfortable, and close to the black crow castle, staff very friendly, and would recommend this hotel. Lots of craft shops in the area , and the hotel has its own bath house, and ensure rooms

The location is very good to enjoy walking around the traditional area and to reach the national heirloom, Matsumoto castle. It's interested things that the furnitues made of "Matsumoto woods" that comes from the local trees is displayed on the ground floor. And if you like, you can touch the full-fledged service at the time-honored Soba-restaurant and purchase something at... More

I recently finished an 8-day trip through Japan including stays in Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagoya, and this wonderful gem of a hotel in Matsumoto. The price was amazing, the location was perfect, the staff was superb, the bath was great, and the town of Matsumoto is super. The hotel itself is very lovely with a great sitting area in the lobby... More

My wife and I have stayed at Matsumoto Hotel Kagetsu annually over the last seven years and we have always had an excellent experience. The location is good, it's in a quiet area close to the city centre although it is several kilometers from the railway station and a taxi would be required if you are travelling with small children... Traveled with a bus tour. Hotel has a kitsch European Alp decor. You can walk every where from there in town including to the castle. Basic English at the front desk which is all you need. Very good breakfast. Room was clean and slightly undersized for western standards but larger than other similar hotels in Japan I had stayed in.

The location is great but that was the only good thing about our stay. We spent one night in one of the Japanese style rooms and I was really looking forward to the experience. However the room was dirty, the floor was stained while the walls and especially the area around the door slider were disgusting and in need of... More

Stay in a Japanese style room. It's huge and can sleep 6 if you'd like. At night they put on fresh sheets. The tatami is cleaned well and the futon is comfy. Sounds better than tiny western beds with Yucky comforters and carpeting. Breakfast is a bargain @ $12. It will fill you up so Lunch can be later. The... More

We stayed in a twin deluxe room. You get a good view of Matsumoto castle, and the room is indeed spacious, even for Western standards. The bathroom is huge, and can be used for both Western and Japanese style bathing. The setback, however, is that the rooms are a bit old and definitely in need of a revamp. The (brown)... More
