This is a modern Onsen hotel - not a "pretty" old fashioned place. The interior is modern and functional; we stayed in a japanese style room which was lovely. The baths are segregated (M/F!) and excellent. Other spa type services - particularly for women are available. Food was excellent - beautifully prepared and presented; waited on by a traditionally dressed... More

We were 2 couples, ages 50-60+. At first we contacted the hotel to verify that we could get vegetarian meals. Got response in a few minutes, asked us exactly about our requirement and after another mail they agreed to all our requirements. Arriving to Nikko, we were met by their shuttle van. Since we arrived in the morning, we were... More

I selected this hotel strictly because of the glowing reviews on trip advisor. While I have no complaints about the hotel, I was expecting a bit more "luxury" for the price tag. We were 4 people in a room which cost $1,000 (USD) per night. (I guess hotel rooms in Japan are just more expensive than I'm accustomed to.) It... More

I took my mother here for a quick visit to Nikko, and we both liked it quite a bit. My mother loved it. I live in Japan and have visited a lot of ryokans, and this was one of my more pleasant experiences. Customer service: Soon after making my reservation online through the hotel's website, I received a thank you/confirmation... More

We spent one night here and LOVED it. We were treated so very warmly and professionally and the English capability was fine. The kaiseki meals were absolutely delicious and our room was HUGE. I truly feel that that this hotel was the best ryokan experience we have had in three trips to Japan, and I would definitely stay here again.... More

This hotel was truly a wonderful paean to hospitality. When we arrived by taxi from the JR station at 10am, we were gracefully separated from our bags and ushered to a table in a magnificent lobby area with a massive plate glass windows and stunning views of a mountain, and quickly and silently served o-cha and delicious mochi. Once we... More

We had a gorgeous room which looked over the river. Were utterly fussed over with people bringing in breakfast, dinner and coming in to make the beds at the end of an evening. They supply Yukata and sandals to wander around the hotel in and a teeny, tiny towel to take to the onsen. Staff were very friendly and helpful... More

We took the family from Hong Kong so our 5 year old son could be blessed at the Toshogu Shrine. The Senhime has an excellent location on the river just below the temples, within push chair distance of all the sights. The rooms are spacious (4 of us sleeping on the tatami is much more fun for the kids than... More

A stay at Senhime Monogatari Inn is a truly traditional, personalized Japanese experience. From the moment you check in, you will receive the highest level of personal attention and hospitality. Upon check-in, we were served a cup of cold tea with mochi. The ryokan manager explained every detail of our stay--the operating hours of the onsen, which door was for... More

Staying at the Senhime Monagatari was one of the highlights of our trip. The location in Nikko was perfect, within walking distance from all the sites. The entire staff was so friendly and accommodating and we really felt pampered during our stay. We don't speak Japanese, but just about all the staff that we encountered spoke at least some English.... More
