Just got back from a week Langkawi and as a last minute off chance internet research just before taking off from singapore to Langkawi found this little "motel" referenced on the lonely planete site. Me and my partner didn't really know Langkawi and thought why not use the motel address for the cab to drop us off, and see from there if we wanted to stay or not. We chose the motel firstly because of the cheap rates ( between 80 - 100 Riggits per room, around 20 € per night for both of us), and secondly from the description that is was situated near the beach and on the quiet part of the well known Pantai cenang beach. We where lucky that there where rooms available and got a superior room for the only 100 riggits, cause the intended room we wanted didn't have the shower working, so the reception girl offered us the upgrade to another room for the same price ( which I thought was perfect..). After a week and some room changing ( due to pre-reservations, we couldnt stay in the same room, so we had to change twice ) we can compare all the room standards they offer, and the prices with the quality of the rooms. The superior rooms are normally 140 Riggits per room per night ( 28 € per night ), and are situated on the rights side of the corridor when you stand in front of the motel, the also have all their own little patio, TV, aircon and Fan, cupboards, big double bed, shower and toilet. The "standard rooms" are on the left and are a bit smaller, but have the same set up as the superior rooms, the main difference is that they have no patio's where you can sit. The motel has a well equipped communal kitchen with fridge, water cooker and stove, and comes in handy if you want to do breakfast or late night drinks under the motel's little communal patio.. ( I bought some anti mosquito smoke spirals for in the evenings to sit outside, makes it a lot more comfortable, especially for people like me, mosquito's love my blood! ). And yes it is true they are on a very good location, the reception of the motel is towards the mainroad,in a little building ( 2 mins walk ? ) , and to go to the beach , you go around the corner, walk through the entrance of the oasis restaurant ( which does a fantastic local dish Nasi kampung, and fabulous fresh Ice tea's ! ), and the bonus is the little beach bar run by "Lan" who also owns the tattoo shop attached to the oasis restaurant who serves cold beers all day and in the evenings you probably have one of the best sunset views from that place on the whole pantai cenang beach! And it is alss true that, that part of the beach is really more chilled out than the rest of pantai cenang, and the sand feels like powder between your toes ...:) So all in all the "Kedewang beach inn" experience was ok for that price, I mean really 80 -100 Riggits per room in my opinion was acceptable, sure the drapes could maybe ( Benefit of the doubt) be more cleaner, but hey..! you're on holidays, ! slap on more of that suntan lotion on your body , spray it over with some mosquito repellant, have another cold drink at Lan's bar sitting on his surfboard " bench" and get yourself some Nasi kampung from the restaurant, chill out, watch the sunset and ... who cares..?..:) ..back in Paris with love..:)…
