My 2nd visit after 1 year. This place is still very clean and quiet. Due to the quietness of the surrounding and the dwelling place. Any loud sound will reverberate in the building. Hope the owner can place some sound proofing material in the building to keep the serenade feeling of the place or/and put up signs for the guest to speak in softer volumes. Beds are still clean and comfortable and a value for money . Wifi is available for free. We paid RM$90 for a twin bedded room. Overall still a nice place.

I stayed here for 2 nights in December 2011 (this date was not available in the box) but did not want to write the review then because the former couple who had been managing this place were very nice people. Now that they have left for quite some time I thought I should write to warn unsuspecting guests. On the very first night I did not have a good sleep and the second night was worse. The very next day I started to itch at places on my body that were exposed to the bedding e.g. my thighs as I was sleeping in shorts and my upper arms as I was wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt. The itch gradually spread and became bad. I suspected the blanket was the main culprit because the caretakers did not use a piece of bed-sheet underneath the blanket as is done at all hotels. This piece of bed-sheet MUST be changed after just one night if a different guest is checking in! The previous person who used the blanket which was obviously not washed must have had some kind of skin problem. I had to see my family doctor upon my return hope as the itch had become unbearable. The affected skin was red and raw from scratching. Luckily after some cream the dermatitis disappeared. I hope the present caretakers would take the trouble to use a bed-sheet under the blanket like is the common practice at all hotels,bona-fide B&B and hospitals. Perhaps the former caretakers did not know how to make the bed the proper way but it was strange that guests who had stayed in the double, twin and family rooms did not experience this phenomenon. Therefore, they must have done it the right way with the other rooms but why not with the single room I stayed in? After this scary experience I never stayed at Sam's again. Also the scones served by the wife of the caretaker was one of the worst I had ever eaten anywhere in the world. It was obviously old scones that had been kept frozen and then heated up and served. It was soggy in the middle which was most unacceptable. Scones should never be soggy in the middle. I am a connoisseur of scones so I should know. It is not possible to pass off scones that had been kept in the freezer as fresh scones as the middle could either be soggy or "over-baked" as a result of overheating the frozen scone. Connoisseurs know such things. The availability of wi-fi and the couple's genuine friendliness could not overcome the shortcomings I have had the misfortune to experience at Sam's. Hope the present caretakers improve the service or the guest-house might have to close shop.

Room Tip: The single room I stayed in was very very small and there was hardly any space to move around....

My wife and I stayed three nights in Sam Guest House and enjoyed it a lot. Rooms have en suite facilities and there is a common lounge / TV / dining area from which a balcony looks over the Chinese Temple. Our room was clean and well maintained, our hosts John and Glory were more than just helpful, they treated us like friends. If you need a stopping place near to the facilities of Binchang and also the Cameron Highlands in general, this is a great budget option.
